Does everyone have to get the LOVENOX shots or is it only for the RNY? My Dr. never said anything about that....

DR pohl and Dr Giovanni dont require those shots at home, they will give you Heprin shots in the hospital but they really arent a big deal. You'll do great Marisa, dont worry!

They are a blood thinner to prevent clots after major surgery. Apparently the needles are fine and they are relatively painless....especially when I stick it into my tummy rolls!!!

I think these shots are for RYN patients, not banders. Maybe someone can clarify that please?  Thanks!

Hi Marissa, I had the RNY and had to do the shot for one month because I have something called S-protien difficiency. It has something to do with the way my blood clots. Most people only have to do them for a few days. For some people they are no big deal. I have no issue with needles, but for me they were a bit uncomfortable. Thing is, it's over relatively quickly. Tell ya what, I would be willing to take them for the rest of my life every day knowing the results I've gotten from the surgery. I've lost 150lbs! I could not be happier!! If you are having surgery, it's really important to have them. They prevent pulmonary embolisms. It's really reduced complications, risk and deaths due to blood clots. They are worth it. You'll be ok, I promise.

I didnt' think there was any way I could possibly give myself a shot - my hubby said he would if I couldn't - I also asked a friend/neighbor if she would if we could not.  The nurse in the hospital was  very helpful in showing me how to do it.... I had no problem administering to myself.  The needle is so fine - I think if I had to actually press hard to puncture the skin it would have bothered me - but these go in so quick and easy then you're done.  For me it was just hard to remember to do twice a day - but I did. I do believe these are only for RNY patients (my friend who had lap band did not have to do them - I dont' think). My advice would be to get a good support system as a back  up for you in case you don't feel comfortable with it. Good Luck! Pam
