LOVENOX shots? you must be kidding!
Sometimes when I go to the pharmacy to pick up what Dr. Roye ordered for me, I find out that it is 10 prefilled injections. Tell me that this is something i don't have to give myself. I haven't heard anyone ever mention these so I am a bit nervous. Good thing I am in nursing school and the thought of giving myself a shot makes my skin crawl.
Hello,
After surgery you give yourself shots to prevent blood clots. I, too, cringed at the thought. But I knew that I could not convince anyone else to do it, so...
Consider it a new adventure. It really barely hurts. I did it in the fleshy part of the thigh (where I could reach & see). Mind you, I never looked forward to it, but all-in-all, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's once/day. In the hospital a nurse or aide will administer it. It doesn't hurt there either, although you think that it should. Those new needles they have are great!
Oh, and remember to buy yourself some antiseptic wipes to swipe beforehand. So, the drill is, swipe, inject, press, remove. Stay calm, relax, & remember to breathe! They will demo in the hospital for you. You can also ask the Visiting Nurses for directions/demo.
Yeah, I know it's a bummer, but it is what it is. There are worse things. Like the prep for a colonoscopy. Or a smashed elbow. Or a dislocated shoulder. Or...
Good luck. You can do this. Consider it just one of life's many unexpected adventures.

Dr. Roye made me do it 2X a day. We taught my DH to do it because I was too afraid to do it myself. Well, in the hospital the night before I was to go home, they MADE me do it myself. It was a piece of cake. I NEVER felt the needle go in. For the most part, I did the rest on my own. I alternated the sides of my big fat tummy!!!!! I would not worry about that, worry more about the NASTY Prilosec liquid they make you take if they dont take out your GB. I could not take it and they had to get me something else.
