I didn't make it!
I am home from the hospital and my surgery was canceled. I cried all the way there and while in pre op I realized I had been drinking water in the morning without giving it a thought. I was so busy worrying about if this was the right thing for me...I just spaced it out altogether. In any case, in the condition I was in and the fact that I had drank, the surgeon decided not too take a chance and sent me home. Unfortunately, I won't be joining you as soon as expected. Once I get past the dissapointment of not having the surgery, I will have to take time to reevaluate. Maybe I really wasn't ready. I guess it was not the right time for me. Thanks for all your support...
I'm so sorry Joy - maybe with the rush to get this done this will give you some more time to be sure you're doing the right thing for you. I too thought that lap band is what I wanted - but after meeting with doctor found that it probably wouldn't do anything for me as I love to snack which never gives you a sense of fullness. Give yourself some time to consider your options.
Best of luck to you :)

Pam...I really get the feeling that they think I would benefit more with the gastric bypass for the same reasons. I am a grazer and a sweet eater among other things. Is that why you chose your surgery and do you feel that it was right for you? How was your surgery and recovery? Maybe I really need to think about that more...I just don't know what to think. I am feeling pretty dumb right about now.

Joy - that is exactly why I ended up choosing gastric bypass. I now have the fear of eating sweets and it causing dumping syndrome for me - enough to keep me away from them. One of my friends at work had the lap band a few days before I had the gastric bypass. Her recovery didn't seem alot different than mine. I got more time in the hospital and more time out of work too.
My thought on RNY vs. lap band was this - I didn't want to do lap band and then find out it wasn't for me and have to go through surgery again to have the gastric bypass done. I was determined I was going to use this surgical tool to my advantage and chose the best one for me.
Please give yourself time to think about it - read everything you can about it and ask lots of questions on these message boards... remember there is no such thing as a dumb question.
Good Luck to you - and Happiest of New Years :)
