Hi everyone, The verdict is in and my banding has been moved up to Friday the 28th to get the benefit of our insurance before it changes. I am a wreck thinking of all the worse possible things going wrong. I am so worried that I will not have the ability to eat the food I know I need to in order to succeed. Food has been so much a part of my life for as long as I remember. I am especially concerned about ice cream as I know it will go down easy and it is a weakness. Any one else have this struggle? I just really hope this is the right decision for me.

Only keep in the house what you can have.  Get the ice cream OUT of the house.  If it isn't there, you can't eat it. Best of luck on Friday, you will do great. Leslie

Hi Joy, I am not having the lapband, but I do understand your concern(s).    I am just doing my pre-op testing (three more to go) and I keep asking myself  am I doing the right thing.    When I think about my overall health and quality of  my life, I know that I need some major changes in my life, health wise.  I get upset when I struggle to tie my shoes, get winded from going up the stairs/down stairs, not being able to play with my grands because I get tired easily etc.   And just the thought of me getting diabetes is enough to say yes.   I will definetly keep you in my prayers!!!!  Should you decided on the surgery I pray for a safe surgery and a quick recovery.   You can do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the best, Robin

IMO, you need to think positive to stay positive. If you keep second guessing yourself, it's a risk of failure. Ice cream has ALWAYS been my weakness, there isn't a flavor I don't like! Yet, the last few times I've bought it (and it's been months) it has lasted for about a week rather then 2-3 days. It gets better and easier. I know if I buy it...I'll eat it but I no longer eat it everyday until it's gone.  There are also healthy options like frozen yogurt but if you're like me...you want the real stuff or nothing at all.  Good luck, I wish you well. You can do this!!!!!

I guess ice cream will ALWAYS be  a challenge but hopefully I will get control over it. I really want to succeed at this and have a normal relationship with food for once in my life. I thank you all for you kind words and thoughts and I will let you know  how I make out hopefully by Sunday. Thanks again...

I buy some of the sugar free varities and treat myself every couple of days.  They taste really good and it is still ice cream...  Good Luck, Jen

I dont have the issue with ice cream, but I've come to the conclusion that there will be temptations and there will be times that I will give in, but you know what? Noone is perfect and I dont want to spend the rest of my life denying myself everything so I try to find alternatives when possible. As Jen said, there are a lot of sugar free varieties, or what about frozen yogurt? Some people even freeze their protein shakes and have those. I'm finding that just about anything I want, can be had but just in a different form and sometimes I have to get creative but so far, its worked for me.  Good luck tomorrow! You'll do great and we're always here for support whenever you need it!
