OT:Ladies, I could really use your help with holiday outfit

Saturday is my holiday party for work and I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to figure out what to wear. I spent several hours shopping last week and walked away with a really nice gold top from Torrid, but wasnt really what I had in mind. The party is pretty formal and i wanted a black ****tail dress, but had given up finding one that seemed right.  Then tonight ,I stopped at Fashion Bug on the way home and they had 1/2 off their clearance items. I couldnt believe it when I looked on the clearance rack and there was this great black velvet dress that was only $25. I took several sizes and went and tried it on and to my amazement needed the smallest I'd picked up which was a 22, down from a 28!! Anyway...back to the problem.  The dress is sleeveless, it ties around the neck and it came with this kind of 1/2 jacket, you know the type that just comes below the chest? Problem is after I got home hubby wanted to see it on, so I put it on and noticed that the back of the dress comes terribly close to the bottom of the jacket so if I'm not careful part of my back peeks out in between the 2 sometimes if I'm moving around a lot. So my question is, does anyone know of any place that might have a black velvet jacket that might work with a pretty formal dress? or any ideas on how to handle this? I'm sure if I'm just careful I'll be alright, but I really dont want to be worrying about that all night if I can avoid it so I thought maybe you ladies might have some suggestions, any ideas are very appreciated!

yes- and I only know this cause I tried on the same dress at fashion bug, but ended up getting the black sleeveless one with the silver glittery circles on it- so now I am in the same boat of looking for something to cover my "batwings".  Fashion Bug has 2 other dressy jackets that go with a bunch of thier dresses.  When I was there last week, they were $19.99- but that dress was full price then- so maybe the jackets are on clearance too!   PS-  woohooo on the loss!!!!!  that is amazing in so short a time!!

Thanks Alexia,  I will definately have to check that out. There is a Fashion Bug close to my work, so I think I'll run over there on lunch today and see. I was in Fall River last night and sometimes I think they have things a lot of stores dont, but we'll see what New Bedford has today. I think I know the dress you're talking about that you bought. There was one on the clearance as well that had gold instead of silver and I tried it on, but I was concerned about the sleeves also..haha. Very pretty though. I think I lucked out and they had just marked a bunch of stuff down yesterday.

Hooray for going down 3 sizes already, Angela! Doesn't it feel great?? Before you know it, you'll be shopping in that "other side" of Fashion Bug! (or not even going in at all!) My suggestion is to ditch the jacket and get a pashmina or other fancy wrap (Maybe satin or velvet?). I had to wear a sleeveless dress as maid of honor in my best friend's wedding in Sept, and my wrap saved my from having to expose the batwings (and back fat!) Anyway, have fun at the party and Merry Christmas!

Thanks Krista, I still cant believe it myself. I would have never even picked up the 22, but last weeend while I was shopping with Sue (friend who had lap band) we found some great things on clearance really cheap at the mall and I picked up a few thinking they might fit in a few months. I decided to try on a jacket to possibly get an idea how long it might be and was blown away when it fit! It really took me by surprise, because I've been mostly stalled for the past 2 weeks (I've lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks) A wrap is a great idea! I'm going to go shopping at lunch and see what I find. My only concern with a wrap would be it slipping during the night, did you have any issues with that? I am one of the most self conscious people you'll ever meet and I have serious issues with my back and my arms.

Awesome job angela...  YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I would go with a wrap also.  They are inexpensive and you will get a lot of use out of it.  have a great time at your party. Jen

Jen, it looks like things are going really well for you too.Congrats! How are you feeling?   I think I'm going to look into the jackets Alexia mentioned and look for a wrap as well. Then I can spend a few hours looking at a mirror and still being unable to make up my mind..HAHA.

Hey Angela,  I have a black fur wrap - like a stole - from 2 years ago that I would be happy to let you try.  Let me know, give me a call and I can come meet you before your party.  Why spend the money?  It has a satin black bow that ties around the front and it comes off the shoulders if you want it to. Thank you so much Leslie, but I actually found another velvet jacket that works really well with it and I think I'm set . I bought new shoes and a small black purse today, now I just need to pick up some Spanx and I'm good to go.  Thank you everyone for your advice and comments. I will definately get a picture to post in my profile so you can all see.
