Insomnia
Good Morning All,
I thought about writing this at 4 am but I was willing myself to stay on the couch and not move. I knew if I went to the computer I would not get up, I'd be reading and playing games. Fat lot of good that did me.
Jim has a cold and coughed ALL NIGHT LONG. I know I should have some sympathy, but mercy, I need sleep too. I never realized someone could cough and snore at the same time
.
Anyway, since I have been home and off all the drugs they gave me in the hospital, I am having a terrible time sleeping. I settle down and close my eyes, pat my kitty for a bit, she sings to me and you would think that would be wonderful but I can not sleep. Before last night I got about 3 or 4 hours tops Saturday and Sunday nights and last night not a wink. Nothing. I was up watching movies on HBO On Demand. Thank Goodness Jim works for Cox and we have free cable with ALL the channels. They have to be good for something, they pay through a bean shooter.
I laid there in bed and started thinking, Oh, was that a pain? Is my pouch ok? Oooh! Was that ok inside? Oh! My steri strips? Are they coming off too soon? I'm Cold! Three blankets, a warm hubby and two cats, and I'm cold. He's too loud. I don't care if he's sick, he needs to stop coughing. I wonder if I had enough protein today? Did I remember to leave Phoebe clean undies with her outfit? She's 8, she can find some right? Do I need to get up and check? No stay in bed. No, better go check, she might try to ask me in a few hours for help if I don't find them now. Did I almost die during surgery? What should I make for dinner tomorrow for the family? I wonder if my weight loss is going according to plan? I need to remember to write a thank you note for the dinner from a church member. On, and on, and on, and on.
At 7 am I was still awake. Jim's alarm was sounding, he was in the shower. Got the girls up, they got dressed, he told me to go back to bed. They were yelling downstairs. Where are my gloves? No that's not the pair I want! I want the pink ones! Oy vey. I yell to them where the right gloves are.
Finally around 8 I fell asleep. I woke up at 10:45. Not much of a night's sleep and it is 12:51 and I'm still in jammies and I don't care. I guess I will at 2:30 when I need to walk to the school bus and get the girls.
So, insomnia? Anyone else?
Help!
Leslie

Hey there tired one!!
I went through the same thing when I came home. I dont think I slept for 3-4 days. I only took 2 doses of pain meds after I got home. I think the problem is they make you sleepy and when you are finally off them, you are sort of addicted..... That is the only thing I can think of. It will pass and you will sleep. Try to rest when you are alone, and dont feel bad about it either. My sister says, sleep=healing...
Glad you are feeling pretty good. Make your husband sleep on the couch tonight and get some sleep. I actually slept in the spare room for almost a week after I got home. I was afraid my son would climb in tbe bed and land on my tummy. That and I wanted my hubby to have to take care of him if he woke up.
Good Luck,
Jen
Leslie..
This sounds like me...almost every night. I never could sleep so my mind would race with a million thoughts, just as you did and before ya know it...it was morning. After years of this...I went and got a 3rd shift job. My sleeping is not perfect but it's so much better. I was a person who could never sleep in the daylight hours. Now I do pretty well. The nights I'm off....it's a crap shoot...some nights I sleep well (like last night), other nights I'm lucky to get 3 hrs in but overall I'm sleeping alot more then I ever have.
Prior to the 3rd shift job...I took OTC sleeping pills.....it helped some night but not always.
Good luck...I know how crappy it can be.
