I will be seeing Dr. Roye this friday to get my date, but I'm a little worried because when I was at his office last they told me in July that I can't gain any weight before surgury, or he will not do it.  since then, I quit smoking, so the weight I did loose (about ten lbs), I gained back 15. Since the summer, my weight has been a yo-yo.  I cut out all carbs, and sugar, and food with fat.  I was able to maintain the 10 lb weight lose, until i quit smoking.  I know he needed me to quit smoking before the surgury, but I'm wondering which one is better. I'm really nervous that he will tell me on Friday that he will not to the surgury.  has anyone that has Dr. Roye had this problem? thank you, Heather

I'm not sure.  When I went in I was 6lbs over what I was from my first appointment and Kathleen was ready to give me trouble she said "You shouldn't have done that."  But I was on my menses so I had alot of water retention.    They never told me not to gain any weight.  You see Kathleen first then you see Dr. Roye same day.  Dr. Roye didn't say anything about my weight.  It is better that you stopped smoking because he wouln't have done the Surgery otherwise.  I think they will give you a break since you did quit.   Hope all goes well.  Let us know how you make out.

He is gonna tell you to lose it before the surgery.  I gained 10lbs from quitting and when I went to my appointment to get my surgery date, he told me he wanted it off before the surgery.  He was very serious about it because the extra weight increases the size of your liver and it would make for a difficult surgery. just a quick question- I just had my consult with Kathleen, but never met Dr Roye.  It seemed like a very quick apt where she took my weight/height, went over my online questionaire, went over the lapband and showed me one.  She gave me a booklet from lapband, and said I should get a packet with what tests I need to do in about 3 weeks.  Is this the apt Dr Roye says no weight gain?!?  Now I am worried I missed out on seeing him and some important info.

I was given the same speech at My first Appt. with Kathleen.  I also was fortunate to meet Dr. Roye at that appt. too.  I guess you dont usually meet him at the first one.  When I went back for my second appt.  I was so scared I had gained weight, but I didn't.  Believe me, I had every excuse ready too.  Think about it though, it was summer when you were weighed.  Clothes are alot heaver in the winter.  Blame it on that.  Also, try to take off your shoes if you can...  HEHEHEHE.  Also, try liquids from now until Friday. I know how you feel.  I hope all goes well for you and he does not give you a hard time. Jen
