Tomorrow is my first ever appointment!
Hi Marie,
I opted for RNY, I have polycystic overy disease and insulin resistance and for me RNY was the better choice. I was on Metformin before surgery because of insulin, now I dont take it at all and havent since 2 weeks prior to my surgery.
I whole-heartedly agree with everyone else, its a decision you must make on your own. THere are advantages and disadvantages to both and Leslie is completely right, RNY was much more dangerous 10 years ago than it is now. Take a look and talk to people on both the RNY and the lapband board, get as much information about both as you can and make the decision you feel most comfortable with.
There is a WLS surgery support group tonight at Roger Williams Hospital from 6-7:30 in the Kay auditorium, if you're available you should try to come. There are both lap band and RNY patients there and that may help you with your questions.
IF you come, make sure you say Hi, you wont be able to miss me, Im the one with the southern accent.
