Lapband on Tuesday! I have some questions.....
I never thought it would get here but Tuesday is my surgery for lapband. Now I have a bunch of questions. The post op diet the nutritionist gave me seems to be the same diet for bypass. Can this be true? Do we do the liquids, softs, and gradual steps to solids like the bypass? Will I be able to drink water after surgery? Do you feel a restriction right away. I thought there was no restriction until the first fill. Is the first fill 6 weeks out or before? I do remember the small bites and chew a lot. Any answers and advice would be appreciated! THanks! Jules
Hi Jules,
I'm almost 6mo post banding now. I DID feel some restriction right after surgery. You will be given some water to SIP on post op. You won't be having any real chewable food for about 4-6 weeks.
There is swelling in and around the area of the stomach that gets banded, so that's why there can be restriction. That's also why foods are gradually re-introduced; the new, tiny tummy can be irritated easily and restrict too much. Good luck on Tuesday, and welcome to the losers bench! Patty
