food questions

Hi, I have a couple questions regarding food.  Now that I'm pretty much on normal foods I want to be sure I'm doing what I should. The other night I had some chicken and it was a little too dry and had problems with it coming back up.  I have been eating white meat because it has less fat, but was wondering about dark meat.  I know there is a lot more fat in dark meat.  Should I stick to the white meat or is it ok to add some of the dark? The other question is about good snacks for a trip.  I'm going away next weekend and what to have something in the hotel room in case I get hungry that is good for me.  I did pick up some Special K protien snacks.  They have 4 grams of protien and 110 calories.  Does anyone know of anything that is a good snack that you can bring on a trip?

Thanks

Dave

Dear  Don, I'd go with the dark meat as it's usually more moist. Those Special K snacks don't have much protein.  How about hard boiled eggs, a few nuts, tuna fish meal packs, protein pudding, soy nuts, maybe even some popcorn.  Protein bars, yogurt (if there is a fridge). I'm sure that others will have more suggestions.

Have fun!

Hey Dave,

If you like Beef you may want to try Buffalo and or Venison, the are very low in fat and a good source of protien.

As for Snacks I use Met RX Protien Plus Bars, They are high in protien between 25 - 32 grams per bar and 200 - 300 calories per bar, I use them as my breakfast and lunch. You can get them at CVS or get them by the box online they are a little pricey about 3.00 each and the Nutritionist and Dr Pohl said they are ok to eat with the band. You may want to try Kashi bars they may be better suited as a snack where as the Met RX bars could be used as a meal.

Have a good trip
Marc

Hi David, did I tell you, you look fabulous!  How about some fat free gravy on that meat.  Heinz makes some good fat free stuff.  As far as snacks, can you have soy crisps?  When I'm craving crunchy stuff, I love the BBQ flavor ones.  I buy the Stop and Shop brand, something Harvest I think.  I've also had the Gennisoy which are good.  They have, I think, about 7 grams of protein.  Maybe you can bring along some sugar free puddings.  If you like tapioca, Cozy Shack makes a very tasty sugar free one.  Good luck and have fun!  I have some news myself to post!  Jules

Lookin' good, Dave!  I would try some of the fat-free gravy on the chicken, or even some broth to moisten it up. I have no trouble with dark meat, but I don't have problems with fat. As for snacks, definitely soy crisps, beef jerky (jus****ch the sugar on some of them), protein bars (I'm currently in love with the Oh Yeah! Protein Wafers - taste like candy bars), dry cereal (either the Special K high protein or the Kashi Go Lean), string cheese if you have a cooler.

Have fun!
