ok, been browsing again (been speaking with pcp and his suggestion was another dr- so researching suggestion)  and I came across something that freaked me out a bit.  I was reading about how a lot of people experience hair loss after wls.  Has this happened to anyone here?  I have thin hair to begin with and have been trying to grow it out for locks of love for over a year now.  If this is true, I better be prepared and try and have it cut before (hopefully it will be long enough- but growing sooo s..l..o..w..l..y)

Yes, it happens..I have lost LOTS of hair and have done what Im suppose to do to try to avoid it. My Doc said its just from rapid weight loss and that once my weight loss slows down, so will my hair loss...luckily I have lots of hair so to the eye you cant tell but I can definitely see and feel the difference...its pretty freaky to see clumps of your hair falling out, but its just temporary. You can buy a vitamin call Biotin to help. Good luck!!

You really do have a lot of hair.  It is very pretty.  My hair is thin and I was a bit freaked by that too.  OOh well, whatever happens will happen. jen

yes, you do loose some hair about 4 months after surgery.  Just take your vitamins every day and try to get enough protein in.  It doesnt last very long.  It is because of the shock to your system when you lose weight.  I never lost a lot but and only noticed in when i was in the shower.   Carol B

I am working on the Locks of Love thing too.  My daughters both did it last year.  They both had there haircut for the first time and cut 10-12 inches off both heads.  That is when I decided to grow mine out so I could do it too. Jen

Aww thanks Jen!!!  I notice mine the most when im in the shower as well....its gross...my husband is more freaked out about it then I am...lol... I always wanted to do locks for love but was always too scared to cut that much hair off my head at one time!!!! Also, I think it has to be untreated hair..no coloring..right?

because sooo many people color/perm, etc thier hair, they have changed that.  They will take most any hair, though for the longest time mine had no color in it- I was really tired of the mousy blonde/brown it was- so I boosted it with a glaze- but normal coloring is fine too.  I was kinda of hoping to wait to have it cut till I was post surgery and closer to my goal weight, so it would be this big "wow"- new look. the website with all the info is here   http://locksoflove.org/donate.html there are also a lot of salons who will offer free haircuts/styling for those who donate- but if you go to a certain place all the time and they don;t offer this, most will have all the info and the stuff to send it if for you

I've donated to Locks of Love twice now, 18" the first time and 13" the second. I think its great that you're growing it out for that reason!
