Fuming mad at Newport Hospital!

I apologize up front, but I really need to vent to people who will understand! I just got off the phone with Newport Hospital . I went in for my sleep study 2 weeks ago and knowing so many people from here have gotten results from them in a few days got concerned when I hadn’t heard anything. I called last week and was told that results take 2 weeks and they never call patients with results. So yesterday I called again to see if the results were done and was told the Dr hadn’t even looked at them yet! UUUGHHH….so she told me since I was a bypass patient that she would hurry things along and my doctor should have them today. Called my doctor and still no results, so I called the sleep center back. They are waiting to be transcribed and they cant give me any results, I will have to get them from PCP and they will have them by Monday…mean time they are now telling me that if the results come back positive for apnea then I’m looking at a couple months to get back in again and they wont even make another appointment for me until my PCP gets the results, meets with me and sends another referral. I’m pissed!! Apparently because the referral came in through my PCP and not “their” doctor they are taking their sweet time.

Monday I am going to call my PCP again and if they don’t have results I am not going to be a pleasant person to talk to and that’s putting it mildly!

*deep breath* sorry, I just needed to vent. Anyone else run into anything similar or have any suggestions?

Angela, Have you called Dr. Millman's office?  All sleep tests are ordered by his office even if your pcp referred you.  Results would automatically be sent to his office and then forwarded on to your pcp.  I actually work for Newport Hospital (in the financial office - I even do the insurance authorizations for the sleep studies).  Now,  in defense of Newport Hospital... they can't just give you results.... because of privacy concerns no results are given over the phone.   Have you been calling the cardio-pulmonary office?  scheduling office?  or Dr. Millman's office?   If you need the doctor's office phone number, I have it and would be happy to email it to you if you like.  My work email is [email protected] and my home addy is [email protected]   Also, if you need any advice o the cpap/bipap, I can help with that as well. good luck!!!

Angela,     I know its extremely hard. But some follow rules and some don't. BUT, once your pcp has the diagnosis, then instead of waiting another two months, tell them you want to go too East Providence (if you have apnea) to finish your study out (there is no rule you HAVE to go to Newport Hosp.)  or even Miriam Hospital.  Set the appointment up and then you can call in on occasion to check for any cancellations. You will get in, in a speedy fashion.     On mine, I received SS appointment, then within a week, I called to check for an opening, they had one the following night and the night after. I chose the following night (Thurs.)          On Monday I had results, scheduled the next one two weeks away, called on that Friday to check for cancellation (only one week after my first one, excluding weekends) and they put me in that following Monday. Two studies one week apart.  Don't let this get you down, there are tricks to pulling off the schedule you want. "DEEP BREATH" stay calm, you can make it happen.

Hey Angela,

My test results took a while too.  When I went to the doctor's to get my surgery date, he still didn't have the report and the test was 3 weeks before.  They had to call to get the results.   The only difference is I didn't have apnea, I found that out the night of my sleep test, so I didn't need another appointment. nancy

Thanks everyone for your responses and encouragement. I guess it was just one of those moments when you need to vent and get it out. My PCP said they will call me as soon as they get the results so I can schedule the other appointment if its needed, I'll just have to hope I can can get in on a cancellation or something if it turns out I need it. Sorry to be so pessimistic yesterday. I guess it just let in get to me. But hey, its almost the end of the week, tomorrow is my cardiology consult and the last thing I need is to stress about that and get my heart going before the cardiology consult.  Thanks again, you guys are great!
