liquid diet!

I'm on day 3 of the liquid diet and it's not fun.  First I tried the shakes the doctor's office sells and they were awful.  They actually made me sick to my stomach!  So today I tried the carnation instant breakfast, they are better than the other ones, but it's going to be a long haul on these. Dinners haven't been great, I'm not a good cook, and picky, so just chicken and veggies.  I was low last night and was thinking is this worth it?  Luckily I made good choices and went for a walk and then bought stuff online to make myself feel better I have a question for those post op and on regular foods.  How restrictive are you?  Can you add some carbs to the diet to have some variety?  I guess I'm going through withdrawal right now because all I can about is carbs!  Last night a dreamed about pizza Dave

I had a slice of pizza for lunch yesterday.  So yes you can add back once you are back to regular foods.  However, in the beginning you will not have much restriction so you should be careful.  After you will have good restriction which means you can't eat as much so you need to be sure you are eating good things for your body.  This does not mean that I don't have pizza once in awhile...  Did you try the wildberry shakes the sell?  That was the only one I liked, but you have to add twice as much water as they say because otherwise it is too much.  I didn't really care for any of the other flavors.  It is worth it, how much longer do you have?

Okay strike 1/2 of what I said.  I didn't look before I posted and now I realize you will be having RNY.  So, my answer is that I am not sure what your post-op experience will be.  However, in the beginning you will lose tons of weight because you won't be able to eat much.  You really need to start to learn what is good for your body because...this is a lifestyle change.  Once again, this doesn't mean you can't have something good like pizza once in awhile.

Hi Dave, The liquid diet totally sucks, but it's worth it! The Bariatrix shakes made me want to hurl, so I stuck to the CIB. I drink the Atkins Advantage ones now, and they are pretty decent. As far as restriction, everyone is different, but I can pretty much eat anything I want. I really don't eat pizza because I stay away from white carbs as much as possible (but not always!) but I could if I wanted to. It would just fill me up very quickly. I have been around people eating pizza and just ate the toppings! It's hard to believe now, but you're not really going to have the cravings for food after surgery like you do now. It's weird, but true. I had quite a few dreams about eating stuff I wasn't supposed to after the surgery, but haven't had one in a long time.  Feel free to PM me with any other questions!

The CIB is better.  The Bariatrix was just so bad.  I have tried Atkins and liked them, but was told by the doctor's office it's Bariatrix or CIB, so I guess I have to go with what they say. Feeling better today, still think about food a lot, but trying to keep busy and been drinking lots of water. ......dave

Here's an angel to watch over you!  Hang in there Dave, you will do it!  Get yourself a George Foreman grill - it'll make that chicken and fish taste yummy!  I'll keep you in my prayers.  If you want to vent, feel free to drop a line!  I"ll need support when I get to your stage, I'm sure.  Jules

Dave,     I'm hoping it gets easier for you as time goes on.. sometimes just starting something out takes quite a bit out of ya. I'm learning to stay away from the Dr's shakes (thats if Dr. Roye's even carries it) and go with the CIB, when I do a two week liquid diet. I don't even think my Dr. requires it, but I will do it anyways.    Anyway, for all you veterans... I already started my supply on CIB, is there different kinds or just the original one? I'm not looking for different flavors, I'm asking if there's some sort of Sugar Free, so used to buying these products, it seems like there should be one. I'll be using 2% milk or do you have to make these with ice or water? You drink two of these per day? You can eat a real meal at dinner?

It's getting better and I'm already loosing weight (down 4lbs!) As far as the CIB, you need to get the no surgar added shakes and make them with fat free milk. The program I'm on requires three a day plus one small meal of lean meat and veggies. .....dave
