All these tests!
Ok, I have a date for my Nutrition appt. and that should do it for me to get approved (or denied). I was looking over all of the other tests that have to be done, Ex. Upper GI., ultrasounds and so on. What is the Esaphogeal Manometry-(spelling)..... Does everyone have to have that test. i have not seen it appear on this message board so I was wondering if you only have to have it if there is some sort of problem. I really wish that if I have to have it done, thay could do it on the day of my EGD test since I will be asleep already. If you have had this joyous test, please let me know how it was. I hate surprises!
Thanks, Jen

When is esophageal manometry used? Esophageal manometry is used primarily in three situations. The first is to evaluate the cause of reflux (regurgitation) of stomach acid and contents back into the esophagus (gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD). The second is to determine the cause of problems with swallowing food. The third is when there is chest pain that may be coming from the esophagus.

Already had that a month ago. My dad died inFeb. from Colon cancer and I was having issues. Thought I would get checked out. I was fine, thankGod! Maybe they dont require that test, but it is listed on the paper they sent me. I will ask as the time gets closer. Did you have the EGD done. I had an appt. w/ Dr. Pianka for the 24th. My insurance told me today they wont cover it because they want me to see one of the Navy Doc's. That was fine w/ me but Kathleen was very pushy about me seeing a Lifespan Dr. I had the insurance lady call there today to make sure it was going to be ok for me to see a Navy Doc., and they said it would be fine Now I need an appt. with them, I got an appt. w/ the lady in Tiverton for the Nutrition eval. Is that who you used?
Thanks,
Jen
Dear Jen, No to the EGD. It was a listed test on my paper also, but I didn't need that one. Actually, after 40 yrs. of heartburn I was somewhat surprised (and relieved). Lifespan wants you to use them because they make more $ and it may also be easier to share records. The tests they gave you are the tests that they want done. When you're finished & see your Dr. he/she will review them. Believe me, if they want you to have more you won't have to remember to ask. So sorry to hear about your Dad. It's hard to lose a parent no matter what your age. Yes, I used ?JoAnn Ferris. i had seen her before so she was aware that while I'd been trying for years to lose weight, I never had more than temproary success. You will like her. Takes slightly under an hr. Islander
