I'm new to the board but have been lurking for about a week.  Anyone have any info on HMO Blue New England....approval or denials????  My PCP is backing me up on my decision  for the Lap Band and I'm now trying to get an appointment to see Dr. Beth Ryder. I chose Dr. Ryder because I have had the pleasure of meeting her a few times in 2005. She is excellent to work with and talk to.  Thanks, Michele

Hi Michelle,  I have HMO Blue New England as well, I'm just in the beginning stages, but I've been on the phone with them several times and it doesnt seem to be too complicated to get  the approval, they told me they cover it provided everything is in order. I met with the NUT today and was told it was covered and all tests for the surgery would be covered. She did tell me today though, that the psych eval will go onto our Mental Health portion of coverage and would need a pre-authorization from Magellan (the number for the authorization is on the back of the card) We'll have to keep each other updated on progress and hopefully it will go smooth.

Thanks Angela and Dawn. Dawn, The link you left was helpful....seems like BC/BS isn't that bad to deal with as Angela has said.  I'm hoping things will go pretty smooth and I'll be approved...but only time will tell. I have an appointment wiht the surgeon in Oct. That's my first step in the right direction....
