how do you decide
Hi Patti,
That's a tough one. It's kinda a personal choice. I can tell you my story. When I first looked into the surgery the two doctors I heard of were Dr Phol and Dr Roye. I first started with Dr Roye because he worked out of RI Hospital which I live close to and have been in. I made an appointment but it was a long wait to get in, and I wasn't impressed by his office staff. The person who made his appointments was not very pleasant. I decided to go to Dr Phols seminar to get more info and see what he had to offer. That seminar changed my life and I knew this was the program I wanted. There were two doctors at the seminar. Dr Phol and Dr Giovanni. I made an appointment with Dr Giovanni, since Dr Phol had a bit of a wait to get in to see him, and she seemed very knowledgeable. When I met her I liked her from the start. She is very easy to talk to and very thourough, and I'm glad I choose her. I'm having my surgey Aug 28.
So I guess it comes down to a gut feeling of who you feel comforatable with. You should go to the seminar with Dr Phol and Dr Giovanni and see how you feel. If you still feel more comfortable with Dr Sax, then that maybe who is best for you.
You won't be disappointed by the seminar, it is really imformative.
Hope this helps a little.

My mom had RNY with Dr Pohl. Back then it was only Dr Pohl and Dr Roye. She had done tons of research and she knew that Dr Pohl was the one for her. When I decided to have lapband I started with Dr Pohl and was discouraged by the wait to get into see him. But when I called Dr Roye he did not do lapband...so Dr Pohl it was. At this point, he obviously has been doing the Lapband longer than anyone else in this state so it made me comfortable.
Good luck...
