I know that all physicians have different requirements for pre-op tests.  But  did everyone on the board have to have all of these tests ex: EGD, Stress test, Gall bladder Ultrasound, Sleep study etc. Anyone not have to have one or more done? If not what was the reason? Is this an insurance requirement?

I had to have all of those except the Gall bladder Ultrasound, because I don't have one anymore. I think the tests are a surgeons standard tests for the surgery, not the insurance companies requirements.  I also had to have a phych evaluation. After going through the tests and talking with techs and doctors there is a reason for all these tests.  The stress test of course is to check your heart.  The EGD gives the surgeon a report on the condition of your stomach.  As my surgeon said,  they don't want to operate and then find you have a huge ulcer or other problem they were not aware of.  The sleep study is to check for sleep apena, which if you have they need to know because when they put you out there can be problems getting you to wake up with sleep apena.  And the ultrasound is probably to check the condition of the gall bladder. All these tests are done to be sure there are no problems or surprises and so the surgeon can go in and do their best knowing everything they need to know. Hope this helps. Dave

Yes, these tests are necessary!  I have just two more to complete the sleep and the EDG! It's a pain BUT at least you know that your body is okay for the surgery!
