Hi everyone from a newbie.........
They told me the psych evaulation would take 2 - 21/2 hours...................4 1/2 hours later lol I was still there. I was in a bad frame of mind when I went there so all kinds of stuff came up. Later when I met with the Doctor I was miffed that she would not clear me for sugery. However, my advice is to be honest because really, don't most of us deal with our emotions and stress through our friend, food? I went to my first group session today and thought I would hate it. Actually, it was informative. There are people there pre-op and some post-op. Many have been going for awhile and are losing weight before surgery. It gave me things to think about and I am looking forward to going back. Good luck!
This is how I described the psych eval:
The psych consult was crazy (ha ha) basically an all day event with a break and paperwork in triplicate. I think the test was - will you take the time to complete all these questions over and over again - if so - then you get the stamp of approval.
It was an all day event. I got there and filled out this 8 page packet...how often do you think about death..are you depressed etc...then I went in and spoke to someone for hours who basically asked me alot of the same questions along with questions about my family and my relationships with them. We talked about weight and weight loss and my childhood... Then they sent me home with another packed to fill out...basically the same questions again. When they handed it to me I said...ummm...I filled this out already...they said..no this is a different one. So I spent an hour filling out the forms again and went back in the afternoon to actually talk to the doctor. She was pretty nice...and this was actually the shortest part for me because she was oncall and got paged in the middle of our meeting... I was approved...
