Dawn,    Good luck.  Finally making the decision on which surgery to have is half the battle.  I racked my brain for a year, or maybe more, on what surgery to choose.

Thanx Nancy.    It's a hard decision to make. But I did three yrs of making a decision of just to have surgery... determining which one to have was fairly easy for me. I found all of my answers here, and any unanswered were done so at the doc's office. I am extremely thankful to those of you that are open to share their experiences. I knew what I had to do and made the decision of rny.

Congratulations on having the RNY, I had it last May 17 of 06, and I have lost 107 lbs and still counting slowly...I read the posts re:  RNY and banding. I dont know much about the band other then from the posts here, but as far as the RNY, it does restrict your eating but yes you can after awhile eat around it,  because carbs go down very very well and thats where the calories come in.  I still have problems with protein, as i can only eat a very small amount.  But cookies and crackers and chips go down really well.  I am careful what I eat somewhat and try to eat more fruits and veggies.  But I have to say one thing about the RNY, when you eat and start go get full...you really know it!! One more bite and you think you are dying.  Thats how I feel.  I am really careful when I eat.  I still have problems every now and then because my eyes are bigger then my stomach. Hubby and I went to the buffet at Twin River (wonderful buffet) but what a waste for me. A taste of a few things and I was ready to leave...in fact I felt awful because I ate a little too much and had to relieve my self in the bathroom.  Anyway, I dont drink soda, eat pasta or rice and very little bread.  I think this also helps.  I am off to see Dr. Harrington today at 2 Dudley Street,  What a night mare that is!  Hopefully my blood work will be normal.   I am happy I had my wls done, I have not weight this less since I was 28 and that was a long long time ago.  I was 317 when I went in and now weigh 210.  I have 18 lbs to go, he wants me down to 192 which is high for most weight charts, but i wil be very very happy if i can get down to that weight.   Good luck on your RNY  Carol B.

Thank you for sharing how easy it is to blow away the one tool you waited your whole life for. Everyday day now since my decision to have surgery, I thank my friend Amy. She is an incredible friend and will be there for me thick or thin. She is so educated in nutrition and has vowed that I won't ever do this again once the surgery takes place. She's writing a small cookbook for me, because she knows what I love to eat and she obviously knows what I am allowed to have. Just last night she informed me that another friend of hers in the past had the rny and knows very much about it, and helped her through.  I feel pretty damn lucky to have her in my life.

Hi Dawn!

I am so happy for you!  I can't wait for my appointment next week - I have done a lot of pretesting before my visit so I think I only have a couple left and then......

Yes, I agree with you this site has been a blessing! I have a long time friend who had the surgery and learned a lot from her, but this place is the best!

Good luck!

Thanks Mary. It didn't go to well calling the office. The secretary nearly had a hissy fit that I called. So, I suppose I have to sit around and wonder.  If I call the Insurance Co., I have no clue how to address it to them. Knowing me, I would just say "My Bariatric Surgeons Office faxed over and I want to know if I am approved" Not to good from my stand point. Maybe someone can inform me on how they addressed their Insurance to see if approved early on instead of waiting a month. I have United Healthcare.
