I have my appt. with Dr. Roye on July 11 and I'm nervous that he won't approve me for surgery. I don't think I qualify under the 100 pound overweight but I do have Hypertension and High Cholesterol and my BMI is 38. I do have to lose at least 85 lbs. Did anyone else have this issue or know of anyone. I'm really anxious.
I, too, was worried. My own Nurse Practioner didn't think that I'd qualify but said to go for it.
I've had acid reflux since I was 19 & thin. This winer/spring, I had chronic allergies & bronchitis, & migraines. I also acquired asthma. I called later before they had sent my papers to the insurer (I think) & said recent blood tests showed high blood sugar & cholesterol, but my Dr. had not yet prescriped meds. I also had a long list of diets, nutritionists, etc. And I exercise regularly! Just kept gaining after an early menopause & could not get rid of it or even slow it. I also listed some foot problems & forgot to add some knee problems!
My BMI was less than 40 but more than 35. I've forgotten exactly. I don't need to lose 100 lbs. either, but close. Dr. Ryder wasn't certain what BlueCross would do as she said they'd gotten more stringent. But I was approved in a few days. And that was before I'd even been diagnosed with sleep apnea which you most likely have.
We actually sound somewhat similar. I don't think that you'll have any problem with the Dr. It's the insurance that's the key unless you're willing to pay. Really, don't worry about it. Just try to recall any other problems you've had & attempts you've made to lose the weight.
