NEWBIE
Hello, Dr. Ryder told me to expect about six mos. & that is what I expect it to be. I first met with her the second week in March. My second appointment with her is the second week of Aug. I hope to get my surgery date 4-6 wks. after this. The sleep study took months. I booked the day after I saw her. I then had a sleep consult (April), & two sleep-over studies (May). Then there was another consult (June). I have my 3rd consultation for the sleep study (I have sleep apnea - most overweight people do) the first week of Aug. The Dr.'s office then booked after this. It's a long, slow process due to the sleep studies.
Hello again,
Book the first sleep consultation now. You can't book any others until this one. You will be sent a packet of materials which you are supposed to fill in. When there they will ask you questions & look down your throat. This gives them a pretty good idea if you have apnea or not. They then will book you for two studies & another consult.
I wanted to sleep at Newport Hosp. which has only two beds, so this may have made the whole thing longer. I also convinced my husband to come with me as I knew he had apnea. I would have bet that I didn't! I was shock to hear that I have severe apnea as does my husband.
Anyone obese has an 80% chance of having it. Do you snore? Do you wake up a lot? Are you a restless sleeper? Have bad dreams? Feel tired during the day? Have throat/respiratory problems with post nasal drip? Heartburn?
You might want to also check out the forum for Medical Conditions - sleep apnea. We have our machines coming Wed. I'm hoping for a great night's sleep afterwards & as I've been so tired the past few months.
I'm done with all my testings now. It's just a waiting game & making sure that my apnea is taken care of.
It may be that they had previously had sleep studies done or that their Dr. did not require it. Without the sleeping stuff, I would have been finished testing in about two months. In R.I. they all seem to require pretty much the same thing. Outside of R.I. it's all different. Some Dr.'s do not require the sleep studies.
