Hi everyone.  I would appreciate anyone who would be willing to share why they made their decision either way. Thank you so much in advance. Patty

I will give you my reasons hope they help with your decision. First lap banding is less invasive than the RNY, Lap banding is reversable. I just dont like the idear of my "plumbing" being rerouted.  I would recommend that you do lots or research on both, you can always watch the the procedures on          www.or-live.com  they have videos of both RNY and Lap Banding. I also like the fact of slower weight loss, have it ingrained from Weigh****chers only 2 - 3 pounds a week is what we should be loosing. Goodluck with your decision, any other question please feel free to ask  Marc

HI PATTY , I FOUND IT WAS EASY TO CHOOSE THE BAND A FRIEND HAD ONE A YEAR AND A HALF AGO AND SHE LOST 150 POUNDS AND IT WAS EASY FOR HER. THE RECOVERY WAS SHORT AND SHE ADAPTED TO THE BAND WELL. I WAS BANDED 9 MONTHS AGO AND HAVELOST 60 POUNDS . ITS GREAT I EAT ABOUT A HALF A CUP OF FOOD AT EACH MEAL AND IM FULL. I AUTOMATICALLY EAT SLOWER WHICH WAS A SWITCH FOR ME . IM NOT STARVING BETWEEN MEALS . I FEEL GREAT AND THERE IS NO SIDE EFFECTS TO THE BAND VERSES THE LIST WITH BYPASS. BYPASS IS A QUICKER WEIGHT LOSS,BUT IM OKAY WITH THE SLOW BUT SURE METHOD . I LOVE MY BAND. I FEEL BETTER ABOUT MY SELF THAN I HAVE IN YEARS. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR HAVING DONE  OH ALSO YOUR BACK TO WORK IN A WEEK AND YOU NEVER HAVE TO TELL ANYONE THEY WILL JUST CREDIT YOU WITH WILLPOWER. KEEP IN TOUCH   ELAINE E.P.

well i will be the different one posting here i had rny in march.I do not regret my desicion one bit i am 3 mths out and have lost 75 lbs already I had alot to lose and knew i would lose alot more with rny then i would with band.my aunt had the band done 6 mths before my rny and i have lost double what she has. how  much do you have to lose?you have to weigh your options look at both and research it.i personally did not want to have to worry about fills all the time and the idea of having a foreing object inside of me didnt go to well.i hope you make the right decision and if you need anyone to talk to or if you have any ?'s about rny just ask... tracy
you will only achieve what you work at if you want something that bad go and get it...

I am going to through a monkey wrench into the mix. I know you only asked about the two.  I have recently been banded.  So far so good.  I jus****ned to let you know that there are other surgeries out there than those two.  I have been even looking at the Gastric Sleeve.  Just incase the band turns out not to be for me.  My body so far is liking it.  I just have done some research and talked to some people and there is always a possiblity that the band might not work for me.  So just incase I looked at other surgeries.  The gastric sleeve would have been my next choice if I didn't have the band.  There is no rerouting of the intestines, but there is cutting and removing of the stomach.   I say look into all the different types of surgeries and make the best educated decission you can.  Good Luck.

"Because we do not know when we will die we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well and yet everything happens only a certain number of times and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your life that you can't even conceive of your life without it. Perhaps four or five times more? Perhaps not even that. How many times will you watch the full moon rise, perhaps twenty, and yet it all seems so limitless."

Hi Patty!

I have decided on the bypass!  I really do not like the idea of a foreign object inside my body! A friend of mine (and her daughter who both had the bypass surgery a few years ago) who is now a supporter for people like ourselves, has told me some stories about the band breaking etc.... it just scares me!  The bypass to me seems more forever and that's what I want to feel full, healthy and not able to get large again!

Good luck in what ever you choose!

bands don't really break.  there are urban legends about all weight loss surgeries, but that's a popular one about the band.  people who break all the rules can see a band "slip", and ports can be damaged, but i've never heard a legitimate story about a band "breaking"
