LET ME ASK YOU THIS........?
Did you find that once you got your surgery date everyone else realized that this is REAL and started trying to talk you out of this??? My sister was giving me such a hard time on the phone last night, about how this is such major surgery. Then when she heard that the dr wants to placa a filter to catch possilbe blood clots she went and started reading me the riot act . She had no idea how dangerous this was and that I was kidding myself if I thought this was going to be easy and about all the complications that could happen. I told don't worry, everything is going to be OK. I know all about the possible complications. I also told her that I was happy that he was taking the extra precaution with the vena cava filter since my blood is prone to clotting more than most. HELP!! Thanks in advance for your help. Paula
Hi Paula, I had that same experience last year when I told my parents and friends that I was having the gastric by pass surgery. My friends were worried but my mother was dead set against it...she and my dad are in assisted living and she kept telling me that one of the nurses would tell her how dangersous is was and how she would never have it done....well I was having it done no matter what. I had my surgery last May 17, 2006. I was 317 and now i am as of today 214lbs. Now when I see her she cant believe how good I look and how good I feel. She now says it was the best thing I ever did. Luckly I had no problems with my surgery. I am still losing but very slow, as all of us who had it done last year all know that this surgery is just a tool. You think that you will never be able to eat anything good again, but IT'S NOT TRUE.!!! Now I have to be careful and excersise and watch what I eat, but, the good thing is that I cant eat that much at a meal. I didnt have any problems with blood cloting, although the doc gave me a prescriptions of shots that i had to give myself every day for a month just in case to thin my blood. If you have made up your mind to have the surgery then have it...it truly makes a huge difference in your life. HOpe this helps... By the way, I am 60 yrs old..and my mother still tries to tell me what to do!!!!!!! hahaha
