I'm having my lap band surgery w/ Dr. Roye on April 3rd. What would you guys recommend I bring to the hospital w/ me? Also what were the essential things you couldn't live with out in the first few days following surgery? I'm trying to be as prepared as possible. One more thing does beano really help after surgery with gas? I've heard that somewhere and I don't know if it is true or not. I can't believe I'm having surgery three weeks from today! I'm nervous and excited and I really, really want to know what to expect afterwords. Thanks for all your help! ~E

Hi E, Doe Dr Roye think you will be staying overnight? I would bring comfy jammies - lotion and slippers. For the first few days after surgery - liquid protein and pillows were really the only thing. I did not use any gas products - walking walking and more walking is what I did. Good luck - this is exciting!!! Danielle

Hey Erin, Congrats....I had Dr Roye for my band...I love that man!! Comfy Jammies and definitely slippers because they will make you walk. A lot of people said Chap stick, but I didnt' use it once. I did bring a book and some magazines, but I was soooo tired that I just wanted to sleep. Bring some toiletries...brush...your own toothpaste...and anything you think you can't live without. For home...I didn't use beano...I got some GasX and didn't even use it at all...thank goodness I had no problems with gas after surgery. They will give you liquid pain meds..you might want to have some liquid or chewable Tylenol, but I didn't use that either. Buy some Sugar free popsicles....they will be your BEST friend for the next few weeks. They are cheaper at BJ's if you have room enough for the big box. Can't think of much else...oh, maybe a sweatsuit for home....you may be a little sore for the 1st few days...be comfortable!!! Keep moving around after surgery and you will do just fine.....and you may not even get gas..I didn't. Good luck!!! Kristen D

Unfortunatly passing gas is a sign of wellness. I wouldn't worry about it. It will be the least of your worries. Intestines become payalyzed right after surgery. You will welcome the gas.
