Hello all, I'm having an issue with trying to loss the required 10lbs before surgery. I don't know why, i'm eating like i use to and i never gain as much as i am know. Instead of loosing 10lbs i gained it. I don't want to blame anything but i did quit smoking in January and i think that is why i gained 10lbs. Know the battle is to at lease maintain my current weight so that when i go for my pre- op Dr. Giovanni don't reschedule me due to weight gain. Right know i'm trying half of the liquid diet. I have a protein shake in the AM, toast w/peanut butter and tea in the afternoon, and dinner in the evening. At dinner i try to cut out carbs. Just eating the meat and veggies. Not sure what else to do. Lave

Hi Lave, God knows I am NOT the best at dieting (obviously) but when i recently did my 5 day fasting diet for my doctor, i lost 9 pounds. i think a lot of it was due to the at least 3 quarts of water per day. good luck in whatever you choose and do..keep us updated melissa

I ate only protein....3 oz's...3 times per day. THATS IT!!!!!!!! and 3 quarts of water minimum. it truly was a starvation diet to get me in ketosis by day 6 in the morning. after the 3rd day when i did go into ketosis, i was really not as hungry as i thought i would be. melissa

Letitia, The pre op diet is a tough one but as it was explained to me it was a protien shake in the am a protien shake in the noon and 6 oz of beef chicken or fish with lots of vegetables in the evening. The Toast and PB are carbs and are not helping you. If you do no carbs it is easier. I got shakes from wallmart EAS advantage Strawberry and Vanilla were good but I did not like chocolate. They are cheap about a dollar each. Stay away from the carbs and it will help a lot. This also helps recovery to go faster after surgery. YOU CAN DO IT !!!!!!!! It will be worth it. Best of Luck Tom

Thanks Tom.... I really don't start my liquid diet until 3/13/07 which is 2 weeks away from my surgery date. I just wanted to get a jump start so that i can maintain my current weight. Sence i was having a problem with weight gain......instead of weight loss. Tom do you know if Dr. Giovianni comes to the pro-op test appointment? Well wish me luck!!!!!! Are you going through Dr. Pohl's office? If so then no they do not come to the pre-ops. At least they didn't to mine...I went to Roger Williams and they just did all my testing which was a chest x ray, some bloodwork and an EKG. Pretty painless. I had only lost 12lbs even though I was on the diet for 4 weeks, but I have to admit, I did cheat two of those weekends....NO cheating now!!!! LOL I agree about omiting the carbs...you will do so much better with the lean protien and veggies...I did 3 oz of protien and a HUGE salad with basically just vinegar and a little olive oil and if I hadn't eaten the chinese, and itallian and every other kind of food those 2 weekends I would have done great...OH yeah, I was doing 2 shakes a day and 1 meal a day.
