i'm here, i'm here!
i went to 2 surgeons in MA. The first was at Brighams', because that's where all of my doctors were/are. I did not get along with the surgeon - at all. It was an instant dislike of everything he was about.. so I opted to not go with him.
I then went to Lahey Clinic in Burlington and fell in love with their program. It was exactly what I'd hoped for in a surgeon/nursing/teaching program. Unfortunately, my insurance at the time refused to pay for surgery - ended up taking them to court and still lost - so I found a new job and got a new insurance - only this time i was in providence, and it made no sense to have a doctor in MA anymore.
So I found Dr. Roye on OH.. and the rest is history.

Melissa,
I live in NH and I am traveling to RI to have my surgery on April 10th. I originally came to RI because I had heard that BCBS was going to require you to have the surgery done by a doctor/program that qualified as a "center of excellence" according to the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. I wasn't sure when they would be changing their policies, and I know this process can take a year or so to complete, so my search began with "centers of excellence". There was not ONE "center" in either NH or Mass. The closest to me was RI and Conn. After some research, I went to one of Dr. Pohl's meetings. I am very very happy with my choice. But still after all this research, I will be having to pay for the surgery myself. figures!! Anyway, I hope this helps...allbeit a few days late. I have been working like crazy lately!! Take care!
