Hi all! I was just recently approved for the lap-band surgery and am very excited! I start my testing next week. I just wanted to know if there was anyone out there that regrets having their surgery or experienced great difficulties? Of course I am a bit nervous, but think this will be the best thing for me.
Any response would be appreciated!
According to my doctor, I only had 83 pounds to lose. I had some co-morbidites which is why I qualified for the surgery. All my co0morbidities are now gone! Ya-hoooo. I still find it hard to eat the protein first...and somedays I totally forget to eat...but you pay for it when you forget..such as losing hair...you need the protein and vitamins for your hair and other things. But all in all, I'm very happy with my results.
I've got a question for you? I think I know you. Do you work in providence for Dr. Ras...and Green....?
Yup, thats me...and the hair loss is a real bummer...I see every morning in the shower how much is coming out...don't get me wrong, i have a lot of hair anyway..but it still stinks..Good luck on your venture. Who is your doctor? I had Dr. Harrington and he's wonderful. My husband had surgery almost two weeks ago and he's doing great!
hee hee hee - hey Steph! I think it's the best for me too - but I'm hoping that I'll get some horror stories so I know what could possibly happen that has actually happened to some people. And if it happens to me, I'll know what the symptoms are etc.
Good luck - and I'll be thinkin of ya! You'll do great I'm sure!!!

I had lapband surgery in early December and I am sooooo in love with my band!
Although not experiencing loss as rapid as RNY patients, I am averaging over 2lbs per week, totally 25 lbs to date. It's all about changing habits and getting a little help from your band. It can be very unforgiving though and it takes a while to get used to the band rules for eating. For a time I was actually hurting my weightloss by eating only soft/mushy foods ( I was afraid to get "stuck"). By doing so food passed through the band quickly making me hungrier sooner. By trading that in for solid foods and eating protien first, then veggies, then starch I actually got "full" - something I hadn't felt in years.
It takes some getting used to, but is oh so worth it. I get a lot of help from the lapband forum message board on OH. Good luck to you and keep us posted.
Happy to be in BandLand

Hi Cathi,
Thanks for your response. 25 pounds in two months is great - good for you! I had lost 25 pounds when I did weigh****chers last time and I felt great - but I worked out constantly and ended up gaining it back plus some. That's why I'm going for the band. I've read that some foods you used to love stop tasting so good - have you found that to be true? My problem is I love sweets. Well, that and I constantly over eat and that's why I think the band will be extremely helpful to me. I have my psych eval tomorrow and my sleep study consult next week. So all the testing begins.....
