i totally hear you on that. it's picking it up, the mess, the huuuge bite that i kind of miss. i miss sushi rolls, too. i've had one or two over the last 3 months.. and it's just so hard to chew into mush. and you can't take little bites of them, either. trust me, i've tried. what a mess. [not to mention we can't exactly eat a whole lot of rice] so i pick out the innards, or just get sashimi which i loooove. and probably has to be the best thing a post-op can eat - the texture is perfect, it's super lean, and has crazy protein. i just wi**** wasn't so damn expensive. kristen*

Hey Melissa I've been saying for weeks that this board is faaarrrrr too quiet! It's gotta have something to do with the time of year, or holidays, or something. Because Claudia, Betsy and I went to the monthly support meeting at RIH and it was incredibly quiet too. So bad you could hear crickets, in January! Nobody was willing to ask questions, bring up topics, nothin! So yeah for you to try an stir things up a little! This is a perfect topic for me this month. It's the first time I've really felt super pouty about not being able to eat something. For me, it's Cadbury Eggs!!!!!!!!! Oh gosh, every year they've been coming out earlier and earlier, the drug store is loaded with them right now. I walk by and pick them up and smell them. Snnniiifffff, aaahhh, damn! Not everybody loves them, but I always have. Of course I also love the little candy coated Cadbury eggs too. Loved them so much I had them at the tables at my wedding 20yrs ago! One of my greatest fears is that I am not a dumper. Sounds weird, I know, but I have always hoped that would be a result of the surgery for me to help keep me away from things like THE EGG. I have yet to feel sick from anything I've eaten with any sugar content, the highest I've ever tried is about 15grams, so not really very high. I've had half a cup of light ice cream and have been fine. I tried a small piece of angel food cake at my father-in-law's birthday, and was fine. I've had those Flipz pretzles, no issues. Thankfully my resolve seems to be stronger now because I haven't had any of these things on a regular basis, where in the past I would eat them til they were gone. If I'm really craving, I have about three of those pretzles and that's it. I try not to have them at all. I too can not eat bread, so I don't even bother. Sometimes, depending how it's cooked, I have trouble with chicken. Forget most carbs, noodles, rice, cereal etc. it never feels like there's any room in there for it. Salads seem to go down great, I always have them with chicken or turkey. I find the Purdue chicken strips, etc. are the easiest to digest for me. There's turkey strips too. I don't eat red meat and I don't like seafood, so that kinda limits my choices. I've tried some weird stuff, like ostrich (ok but not worth the price) and duck (worth the price but my animal loving side beats me up over it so I don't have it very often). I'm not a big veggie eater so I get a little stuck sometimes. I'm at 6 months, so that sort of makes me a semi-veteran for this board lately. I'm a bit of a slow loser, 80lbs, but extremely happy with the loss. Like you, I think Kristen is awesome. I always look forward to reading her posts. Her picture trips me out too, the mischievous look on her face! I wish more people would post, this is a great topic. Pam

Hi Melissa, I am currently 5 1/2 months out. I am afraid of eating anything that might make me sick. I could use a great balogna and cheese sandwich on wonder bread with mustard but I haven't tried anything even remotely against the rules. I am chicken and happy about that. I have had no issues with any kind of food that I have eaten though. I eat steak and chicken and ground beef. My staples seem to have become chili either home made or from Wendy's, chicken salad home made, (I love willow tree but it is full of sugar) and spinich salads with ham and chick peas. If I feel a need for something sinful every once in a while and I will buy cool whip free and slice a half of a banana and put reduced fat peanut butter on it. It is yummy. I guess I am still in the honemoon phase because there really isn't anything that I REALLY REALLY MISS. Eating just isn't as important as it once was. I have not had an alcohol since surgery either. Again, I am chcken. I am glad to paicipate with these threads, we need mre activity here.

I feel infinitly more healthy. I would probably have lost my job and been unable to work if I had not started losing weight. I was always exhausted and felt just awful. I was missing a lot of days calling in sick. I have missed only one day since I returned back to work in September. As far as sticking to the rules, for me it is easy and I hope it will be for you. I just can't imagine taking this extreme step and not following the rules. As I said though, I may still be in the honeymoon period. I could never fault the folks who do go through this surgery and in the end gain back weight. Who knows what makes us act the way we do. Betz
