Another pych consult question
I am obsessed with this eval and nervous as all get out. I have an appt. next to RIH that is going to take a total of about 5hrs that day.......Is there anyone else in the area who is good and takes less time. I'm going to try to get my psychiatrist to write a letter of approval but the receptionist says he doesn't clear people for surgery. Dr Pohl said a letter will do.....My official appt is with Dr Zimmerman's group and I've heard lousy thigs about them...
any thoughts or ideas?
TIA
Janet
I had surgery with Dr. Roye. My current psychiatrist wrote a referral for me and it was fine. I was glad I didn't have to do a psych eval but it should be no problem as long as you don't think the surgery is a magic cure, it is a tool and we still have to work at success.
Ask your doctor even if the receptionist said he doesn't he may for his current patients.

Hi Janet. I am going to Dr. Pohl too and went to Dr. Zimmerman's group as well. The whole appt isn't that long, it's just that there is a wait in between for like 2 hours. First you have to go into a room and answer TONS of questions....some of them are funny...LOL That takes a while and then you wait and go back to see the actual phychiatrist. She did try her hardest to scare me out of it, but I was READY and she could see that. Just go in there with a positive attitude and be confident in what you want and you'll be fine.
Thanks for the responses! I'm feeling better about it. I am a nurse so I understad all the complications and i am determined! I have an appt with my psych on Monday. I'll ask him for a personal referral. If he says no I'll do the consult. It's scheduled for Feb 6th.
Stephanie,
How far along are you into the process? I have my first appt with Dr Giovanni on Feb 12th. All my testing should be done by then. I'll just have my EGD last. The office staff seems great! They said I have one of the best insurance comapnies. So that's helpful. I have bcbs coast -coast.

Jan,
I found the people at Dr Zimmermans to be very nice. There is a lot of repetition, A lot of the questions are asked over and over again but they were all kind and very sensitive to the discussions. Be honest and open and they will know that you are being you. I had great aprehentions about going as well but it all ended up great.
Best of luck
Tom
