I am wondering if you hae any support group near Coventry? I live in Minnesota and just visited a very dear friend in Coventry about two weeks ago. She had WLS surgery about 6 years ago and has struggled with weight gain. She has never attend a support group nor been omn any sites that I know of. I had RNY 4 years ago and have been very successful in loosing 150 lbs and have kept it off. I unlike my friend, attended lots of support group online and in person. I still attend support groups. I do know that this surgery is not a miracle to become "skinny". I do work at it daily and watch what I eat. I would appreciate getting any information that I can about group in her area. Thanks, Betty

Hi Betty, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Please tell her that there is a great support group through RI Hospital, every 1st Wednesday of the month. Take care. L.

it's as close as she is going to get, i'm afraid. i think her choices are either RIH or Roger Williams. Most of us go to the RIH support group. i dn't know the exact distance - but given RI is soooo small, it can't be very far!!! lol

Hi Betty, I think Coventry is about 25 minutes from Providence, maybe 35. So definitely doable and worth it. The group is very diverse. We have members that are only a few days out, to members that are multiple years out. I know we have some that are 6 years plus. It's a great group, as you can probably tell as most of us here on the message board also attend. Usually Dr. Roye or his physician's assistant attends. Also there is a dietician, psychologist (I think she's a psych, maybe a social wkr I forget), one of the nurses (who also had bypass last year) and sometimes the physical therapist is there. Some of the members talk about their struggles with weight as the years go by. Encourage your friend to read some of the posts here. Maybe eventually she'll jump on, then maybe she'll feel better about coming to the support group once she's met us...so to speak. You're a good friend. I wish I could get my girlfriend to come, she struggles so desperately with her weight and her self image. She says she's not ready to consider weight loss surgery. Wish I'd had the opportunity ten years ago that she could have now (she's ten yrs younger than me). Pam
