Upset and disappointed!
I know, I'm not the only one facing hurdles, trying to get approved for surgery.
I just received a call from the Dr.'s office.
My insurance company, (First Health), won't accept my 6 month supervised diet plan from 1997.
I was told, I would have to start another 3 month supervised diet and I still may not be approved.
This really stinks. I am so angry and upset.
I feel like giving up.
Maybe this isn't meant to be.

nancy..
i understand how frustrating this can be.. but let's keep a realistic perspective on things? first, they're only asking for 3 months - not another 6. second, they aren't flat out denying you like so many have been denied before. if anything, think of all the people who have flat out exclusions written into their plan - those people don't have a chance to jump through any hoops, never mind a 3 month diet.
it'll take 3 months just to get everything coordinated! plus, you'll get to enjoy another thanksgiving and christmas before drastically reducing your food intake.
keep your thoughts focused on the positive side of things, nancy.
this is all worth it. every single heartache and pain... it's all worth.
big hugs,

Hi Nancy,
Don't give up!! Believe me, we have all had one hurdle or another to get over to get approval. I had to wait until the stent in my heart was a year old. I just took my time and got all of my pre-op testing done and told myself it wasn't my time. Was it frustrating?? YES!! Was the wait worth it?? I think so. My surgery is Oct 17th..I started this process in the spring. I have had more time to go on these chat boards and get familiar with the positive and even the negatives of the surgery. I feel that everything happens for a reason..is it unfair?? Yes it is. Nobody knows what it is like to walk a day in your shoes. And a lot of people don't know what it feels like to be on this side. Being heavy is no picnic. But you know what?? You are choosing to do this for yourself. it is a big decision to have the surgery and this just gives you more motivation to do anything you have to do to get there. 3 months is not long in the big picture of things. hang in there!! It will all work out. 3 months will go by fast!!

Hi,
Thanks, to all of you *****sponded to my whining. LOL!
I really thought, I had all the bases covered.
All of my testing is done.
I was just waiting for my approval.
If I had of been on the ball, I would have seen in my policy that I needed to do a diet within six months of surgery.
I'm not giving up, because you are all an inspiration to me.
It's just when I got the call, it caught me off guard and I fell apart.
You have all had your hurdles and I will get past mine.
I appreciate all the support.
Nancy
PS~
Best of luck on your surgery Kristen.
I know you will be fine.
You're in good hands.
thanks for the wishes!! I saw your post the other day...which surgery are you going to go for?? Are you going to for that new procedure?? I don't blame you for losing it when you got that call. Belive me, I had to go for an MRI a month ago and they found problems...the only thing I could think of was...oh man, another hurdle and I hope they don't say I can't have surgery...lol...pretty crazy. But when you get to the point of wanting it so bad, everything feels worse than it is. I have bronchitis right now and am freaking out because I have 2 1/2 weeks to get rid of it...I don't want any postponements. I have waited this long and I want to get it over with.
Everyone here is so supportive. I am having the Lap Band so I go over and read the posts on that board as well..I love this site!!!
If you need to vent, I am always lurking around the boards!!
take care

Hey Kristen,
I hope your taking antibiotics, for your Bronchitis.
I'm just being a mother, don't mind me. LOL!
My daughter's name is Kristen, too.
She always telling me, that I'm such a Mom.
I can't help it. I like to nurture.
I am hoping to get approved for the new, vertical sleeve gastrectomy.
I really like the idea of not messing with my intestines, but if the insurance company won't approve it, then I'll go with the RNY.
I want it bad!
There's a great bunch of people and info on these boards.
It's wonderful!
You take care of yourself...
Nancy
GM Nancy,
I just read your post and please dont't feel that way about your wls. Don't give up!! I can only imagine how you felt yesterday. Can you find out why you may not be approved? What is the criteria for being approved? I know you are looking into an alternative method of wls instead of the lap rny. Will your health insurance cover RNY or lap? Please check all of these out....maybe there is one method they will cover, as most health carriers do now.
Good Luck...ps i did register for e bay....now on the hooking up my blue tooth to my new cell.....two things I want to do before I die...hahaha

Hi Carol,
Thanks, for your support.
Today, is another day and I won't give up.
Everything just seemed to hit me yesterday and then I got the phone call.
I have made an appt, with my Dr., to start a 3 month weight loss program, which is required by the insurance company.
I didn't want to have my surgery until Jan., anyway, so that will work out okay.
I'm glad you are trying out e-Bay.
Let me know what your e-Bay selling name is, so I can check out your auctions.
Boy, you are really computer literate.
Bluetooth! I've heard of it, but don't know what it's for.
Take care.
