Change of heart

Hi guys, I haven't posted on the RI site, in a while. I have been having mixed emotions about what surgery I want. I was all set to have the RNY with Dr. Roye. I'm still waiting for my insurance approval. I'm sure recently, you have seen on TV and in the newspapers, about the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. (VSG) My husband brought home an article about VSG and I am really impressed . The one thing that I really like about it, is that your intestines are'nt cut. Also, dumping is supposed to be less of an issue. They remove the part of your stomach that controls hunger. Supposedly, the right of weight loss is about the same as RNY. A lot of surgeons have been doing this type of surgery for awhile. So, I have started researching and there is a VSG forum, on OH. Everyone has been really helpful answering questions. All the OH forums are informative and supportive. I have found a surgeon near Orlando, FL.,that has been doing this surgery for a while. He also operates and teaches to other surgeons. I had a phone consult with him yesterday and we talked about 20 minutes. He didn't rush me and laid the risks out on the line. If all goes well, I will be having my surgey in Jan., when I go to FL. I'm really excited! The best to all of you, on your weight loss journey. Nancy

Hi Carol, I appreciate your concern. I guess, I forgot to mention that I live in FL. for 6 months, in the winter. That was also another reason that I had my doubts. I guess, I want my cake and eat it to, so to speak. LOL! If I had the surgery in RI, I wouldn't be able to go to FL. for the winter. I guess there's a reason for everything happening. I started this journey in June of 2005 and it has taken me this long to decide on WLS. When I finally decided I wanted to proceed with a RNY, something came along (VSG) that seems like a better option for me. I will still be posting on three OH forums, RI, FL, and the VSG board. Best of luck to you, with your surgery and weight loss. Nice talking to you. Take care. Nancy
