Hi everyone! Ok, it's the curious cat again LOL (thinking of changing my name) I was wondering if anyone had had the h-pylori breath test before and what does it consist of? What do they do to you? How long did it take? Also, how long before the doctor called you with the results? Thank you. L

I have to go for this test on Monday. They told me to expect the test to take 30 minutes and not to eat/drink, except for water 4 hours before test. Two weeks before the test do not take Pepto Bismol (oral bismuth subsalicylate), do not take any prescription or over-the-counter proton pump inhibitors (Prilosec [omeprazole], Prevacid [lansoprazole], Protonix [pantoprazole], Aciphex [rabeprazole] or Nexium [esomeprazole]) According to a few searches I have done, the test is as follows: What happens during the test? During the test, you will be asked to exhale into a balloon-like bag. The air you breathe into this bag is tested to provide a basis for comparison (called a baseline sample). You will then be asked to drink a small amount of a pleasant lemon-flavored solution. Fifteen minutes after drinking the solution, a second breath sample will be taken. The air you breathe into this bag is tested for an increase in carbon dioxide. The results should only take a couple of days.

What Kelli said is true...........the breath test was so easy. The lemon flavored drink was not bad at all and as far as breathing in the bag, well that was just a piece of cake (not that we eat cake or anything like that ). No need to worry about this test at all, and as I told you before,....if you took the meds exactly as you supposed to,..then you have nothing to worry about. I was a nervous wreck but Dr. Roye said the meds eradicated the h-pylori (which is common in alot of people, but some never get the ulcers while others do. I'm sure you'll be fine. BEST OF LUCK. Shel

Actually, the results came in through the 24 somewhat vials of blood they took out of me lol.... that's how they found out I had that bacteria in my stomach. Now to re-test, it's through a breathing test for some reason. L.
