Another question! For those who had surgery...
Jessica:
I can tell you that Dr. Roye said he doesn't require a pre-surgical diet.....however....I had gained 10 pounds from the time of my first visit and my second visit and he wasn't happy with that. He did ask me to lose it and I did before going in at the end of August to get my surgery date. I don't know who your Dr. is, but he won't ask you to do it "just cause". Sometimes, if it's asked of you, it's a requirement of your insurance company and not your surgeon. Hope this helps.

ok..
i've been through 3 different WLS programs - 2 in Boston [first i didn't like, 2nd kept getting denied through insurance, ended up moving, blah blah blah] and this last time with Dr. Roye.
The first two programs required patients to lose 10% of their body weight through a low-fat diet. This was to lower the fat intake, thereby reducing the size of your liver.
Dr. Roye doesn't require patients to lose weight.. but because 2 out 3 programs did.. i decided to do the whole low-fat diet thing for a couple months before surgery. I didn't go nuts, i didn't exercise anymore, but I lost 18 pounds. I figure that's better than nothing, and it certainly didn't hurt..
so why not?
