I can't believe tomorrow I should be getting my surgery date...hopefully he has an opening real soon! Don't know how much longer I can wait! I've come up with a couple questions for him: 1. About lifting, carring, holding after surgery - I need some type of weight limit to go by...for those who don' t know, I have a 9 month old baby girl, and I want to know exactly how much weight I can hold! 2. I need to ask him about lap vs. open...when I went for my initial...they said due to my weight being 337, I would have to have open...but I seen several people he did lap to that were just a tad smaller than that...and well, hell, I would rather have lap! So hopefully a little begging on my part will persuade him! 3. I need to know if he's taking my gallbladder out during the surgery...I hope so! I don't have gallbladder disease..but have had problems in the past and I here that many patients have problems after the surgery, so I'd rather it came out then! Thats it, that's all I have for him. Anyone care to chime in with there 2 cents...please do so! I wish I could just sleep straight through until tomorrow's appt...to make the time go by! Do have one question for those who had surgery, When you 1st got out (first day or so) were you in ICU? Or a regular room? I wonder only because I'm going to want to see my baby and they don't allow children in ICU.

Hi Jessica..........BEST OF LUCK TOMORROW! I hope all goes well and you get an early date. As far as lifting is concerned, you're going to need help with your baby in the beginning. I had a hystorectomy at 21 and had 2 small children and the lifting caused a lot of adhesions that Dr. Roye will be dealing with now. In regards to the open or lap, I was at 339 the last time I saw Dr. Roye but have lost 13 pounds so far. He said he was doing lap, and that included the removal of my problematic gall bladder...BUT...also said it "might" be necessary to do it open once he got in there and saw what was going on. I'm ok with that. He will make the right decision for my best interest and Dr. Harrington will do the same for you. Dr. Roye did not say, however, that open was necessary due to my weight. He just said adhesions and the gall bladder issue, as well as anything else that may arise, could lead him to perform an open rather than lap. I haven't heard that many surgeons are taking out healthy gall bladders but some choose to do it since rapid weight loss causes gall bladder problems down the road. Just talk to him about it and he'll choose what's best for your situation. I hope you are as confident in your surgeon as I am with mine. I have no doubt that whatever is done will be in my best interest. Ask any and all questions until you are comfortable and at ease. I think we go directly into ICU....I've already been told that I will because I'll be on my cpap and they will monitor me very closely. How long we stay, I don't know....but I believe that I'll be in there for 2 days and then will go to the step down unit after that. I'm assuming my progress will determine that. I'm hoping that tomorrow goes well for you and that you get all of your questions answered. Best of luck to you and keep us posted. Hugs. Shel

I have my hubby to assist with our daughter...I just plan on doing everything I can, other then carry her, I figure I can still do tons! And yes, I do trust Dr. Harrington and his choices. I too am not worried about an open rny...but of course would prefer the lap. We'll see what he says...as far as the gallbladder, hopefully he chooses to take it out, I've had a gallbladder attack and it is horrible! Thanks for your response...I'll post all the info once I get it!
