Opinion on your Surgeon (Dr. Harrington)
Hi Donna,
I had Dr H for my wls and I like him a lot. He is down to earth. He came in to see me everyday in the hospital every early in the morning. You can talk to him very candidly. In fact, I am seeing him tommroow morning at 845 am . It;s my 3 month visit. I didnt see him until after all my tests were completed. I was supposed to lost at least 10 lbs before my surgery and I didnt but it was no big deal. He is a trauma surgeron and had a lot to do with the fire stations victims. He is very experienced in his field...so don't have any hesitations with him. He is also a very busy doctor. No wonder he is so slim....and very Irish looking...hahaha.
I had a lap rny and my gall bladder out and he is a wonderful job. You can barely see the little tiny scars. He is ok in my book. HOpe this helps.

Thanks so much for your information. How long did it take to have the surgery from the first visit with Dr. H.? When did you have your RNY and how much have you lost since the surgery. Since I made the decision to do this I am ready to go even though I know I have a lot of test to go through yet. Thanks, again. Donna
Hi Donna,
I believe my first visit was in September of last year. I then got my test prescriptions and I think I started the following month. I had my surgery on May 17th of this year. I have lost 53 lbs. I started at 315lb at the date of surgery and I am 258lb as of today. I know it really isnt that much of weight loss if you read other people's profile. But I feel so much better. I do have food issues especially with protein foods. ie. beef, chicken, fish, eggs. . I can barely eat it. I get most of my protein from protein shakes and protein bars...such as slim fast, zone bars, and powder protein... etc. I can't eat pasta either. But I have no trouble eating anything else. I keep trying the protein foods, as I won't give up. Some people dont have too many problems with food, and some do. What I found out is that everyone is so different with wls. But, the end result is the same. We all lose lbs!!!!

Carol............I, for one, think you are doing a fantastic job. Don't compare yourself or your journey with anyone else's.....yours is your own and you're doing great. You have hurdles that some people don't have and you're jumping them and still losing the weight. I think you've come a long way and am very very proud of you.

I too have Dr Harrington, Have not met him yet (tomorrow). I had my 1st appt at the end of April or beginning of May (not sure) and finished all my pre-op testing at the end of August - would have been done at the end of July...but getting a follow up appt with the sleep study doctor took weeks. So it basically took me 4 months...could have been quicker if I didn't go on vacation in the middle and I had a set back that took a couple weeks. Here's my advice...if you can, do the appts whenever theres an opening, and there are some you can bulk together, do that! Also, I've found that calling the doctors office for my tests, such as sleep study's, pulmonary and so on, I've asked to be put on the cancel list, basically last minute appts...that worked too! Good luck!
