Nutrition and the Baratric Food Guide Pyramid
Hi Everyone
I had a nice talk with Sue Manchester yesterday afternoon. I called her because I have been feeling a little "lost" as to where I'm supposed to be at this stage in the game. So many of our doctors office focus so much on the first three months of post-op, that it seems like after that - we're kind of left on our own. I haven't been sure of how much I'm supposed to eat, how many calories would be normal, etc. So I called Sue.
She didn't give me too much of a guide. She said that they don't like to "box us into" something like that.. but.. that someone who's about 4 months out, and as long as they are still losing weight, a patient can eat anywhere from 4-8 oz of food, although she doubts that they would be able to eat that much of solid protein! and the calorie intake would be about 800-1000 calories. I've only been eating about 600 a day, so she suggested that I add some more fruit and nuts as a planned snack. We discussed some, ahem, issues i've been having with the bathroom - and said that it may be due to either the Iron supplement I'm taking, or the fact that my fat intake is super low. So she thinks adding nuts, which will give me a little protein, but also some natural fat that will help lubricate my system. This could also be why my skin has been ultra dry over the last few months!
She discussed with me, the Bariatric Food Guide Pyramid and will be sending me some literature in the mail. But, in the meantime, because I'm curious AND impatient.. i did a little research on my own and thought i'd share this link. I found it pretty helpful!
