hi elaine! things are going really well for me. i think i've been lucky in that i have had very few issues after surgery. the only thing that i've had issues with is chicken and eating a piece of food that was too big. i thought i had overcome my chicken issue, but i tried a leg at boston market this afternoon - and it was a no go - i got that instant "stuck" feeling, so i stopped eating. i'm eating lots of protein! i handle steak and steak tips, scallops and sushi really, really well. i've also had just grilled veal [mmm.. twin oaks, baby! that meal lasted me 5 days!!!] i'm four months out and eating pretty much normally. i don't think anyone can really notice that i've had surgery - except that i leave all starchy/rice things on my plate, and that i never finish my meal. i went out to Tweet's in Bristol the other night. Jay and i got littlenecks on the half shell [i had 4 of them] and then i ate about 1/3 of the baked scallop dish. the waitress wanted to be sure that i liked them - and i told her i did, just that i was full and could she wrap the rest.. so it's fine. i was actually just talking to a friend about the whole job thing.. so many of you take off from work, have the surgery and go back - so while you're losing your weight, everyone is keeping track. i started my newjob and no one knows i had surgery.. so i don't get much of the "how much have you lost?" thing. just the other day was the first time since surgery that someone i hadn't seen in awhile has asked how much i've lost. it was a bit unnerving to me. i'm not used to divulging that kind of info to people i hardly know. what i'm looking forward to is going to Atlanta for Thanksgiving. My brother hasn't seen me since 3 weeks post-op. i still had staples in! So by November I believe i'll be down 100+ pounds. I've only got 9 more to go to lose 100.. so I'm trying to up my protein and get my exercise in regularly. Oh - and I had a glass of wine too many last night. Man.. thank god i was at home!!! It was one of those bottles that just tastes soooo good, i didn't realize how much and how quickly i drank. i think i had maybe a glass and a half to two glasses [depending on how big yur wine glasses are - mine are huge. lol] i felt pretty drunk for about a half hour, laid down on the couch and immediately fell asleep. i don't know if it was because i was drunk, or the sugars in it made me sleepy, or what.. but damn.. i know i need to watch myself like a hawk when/if i start going to bars! i hope this helps?

i meant to add - the hardest thing i find with this surgery, is not eating and drinking at the same time. i'm one of those people who'll have 5 glasses of water with my meal.. so that part is hard. i'm getting used to it - but there are times when it really sucks having to wait. so i take a tiny sip to wet my mouth/throat - butthat's all i allow myself. but other than that, i'm not finding it that hard to eat the way i should. it comes pretty naturally now. i know that everytime i put something in my mouth - ithas to be protein. if i'm putting something in my mouth, and it's not lunch/dinner/breakfast - it had better have some kind of nutritional benefit, like a piece of fruit. we just don't have enough stomach space to handle unneccessary food/calories - and i think that'll be something i will carry with me for the rest of my life.
