so they do give youu an epidermal?
it's done on a case-by-case situation. not everyone gets them. people who aren't very big don't get them because their recovery is a lot easier- and people who are very big tend to not get them, as they are hard to place. so only the people who are in between are really candidates for an epidural.
don't worry about it - seriously. chances are, you won't have one. and even if you do- you aren't going to feel anything because of the drugs they give you to relax and numb you.
ask dr. roye at your appointment and you'll have the clarification you're looking for.
hope to see you at a support meeting!

Hi!
Kristen is right. Your surgeon makes the decision based on your stats. Dr. Roye hasn't even made the decision for me yet. But he's leaning towards no. I was glad to hear Kristen tell us that they numb you first. They didn't do that for my daughter during childbirth and I wondered the same thing. And just an FYI....Helen moved to NY a couple of months ago. She's not there anymore and I have never met the woman who took her place. You're going to do fine. It's good to be informed and even a little nervous....but don't be scared! In my opinion, scared means you don't have all of your questions answered. Dig up anything to find your answers and then run it all by Dr. Roye. Don't go by things you read on websites, or even what we say. Every surgery is different. Our own situations are unique to our own physiology and co-morb's. I know my stomach does flip flops every now and then when I think about surgery, now that the time is getting nearer. But I'm satisfied with my decision and my surgeon. And you can't beat the support you'll get here.
Be well!
