LAP BAND SURGERY INFO.?
Hi everyone! This is my very first time on the message board. I've just finished my pre-testing for lap-band surgery with Dr. Dean roye. My pre-
surgery appointment with him is on July 28. Has anyone had Dr. Roye for
lap-band surgery and do you know if the wait is just as long as it is for
gastric bypass surgery? The sleep study held me up for such a long time. It took such a long time to get an appointment. Also, do you know
how long you have to stay in the hospital for lap-band surgery? I appreciate anybody's feedback! Thank-you!
Sandy!

Hello and welcome! We just had our montly meeting at RIH last night, It is monthly and usually dr. roye attends. You should come next month!! I heard that dr. roye is booking into Nov right now. The stay for lap-band is 1-2 nights, bypass is 2-3, if you have no problems then probably just one night

Hi kristin,
thanks for your response. I didn't know anything about the monthly
meetings. I wonder why no one from Dr. Roye's office ever told me
about them. Where exactly are they at rih? I'd really like to attend the next one. Wow! I didn't realize I would have to wait that long for the
surgery. At my first appointment with Dr. Roye, when I asked him about
how long it would be before I would be having the surgery, (this was
on April 17), he said between the end of May and the end of June depending
on when his baby would be born because he was going to take 3 weeks off. That was before I received the packet in the mail with all the pre-
testing I had to do. Anyway, thanks very much for the info. I guess I'd
better have some patience. Take care!

Hi Sandy'
The meetings are at Gerry house on the campus of RIH. When you go to dr royes next, ask for the schedule whi*****ludes a map. the next meeting is in early august. About the scheduling, I dont know maybe he does things differently with the lapband? I am not sure, but I have heard the nov time frame for RNY. Anyway, about the meeting, it is cool because we have our little "RI Board Clich" and we all hang out and talk. You should come, you will love it!!

Hi Sandy,
I am having my lap-band done with Dr Roye too. I have one more test to go...I thought he told me that it is one overnight if everything goes well, but I could be wrong. Let me know when you find out your surgery date. I am curious to see how long I have to wait. My last appt for pre-op is not until the end of the month so I have to wait to even get my surgery appt...ugh, I can't wait. You must be excited that you are so close!!!
good luck

Hi kristen d. !
Sorry to say, I'm no closer than you are to getting a surgery date. My
appointment with Dr. Roye is July 28. That's when I'll find out. From what
I've been hearing, Dr. Roye is now booking into nov. I guess we'll just have to have a whole lot of patience! Good luck and keep in touch!

Hi Sandy,
I'm going to be doing a lapband (most likely) w/ Dr. Ryder (who is in practice w/ Dr. Roye). I just had my first appt with her today and am now waiting for that insurance approval!
Kristen is right about the wait. They told us at last night's meeting that he is booking into the fall. Also, she told me (which I already knew) that they're just starting to do the lapband at that practice. Dr. Roye has done about 5 (and she has 2, I think). Anyway, the company that makes the LapBand sends along one of their own surgeons to oversee the surgery until the doctors have more of them under their belts. That means, according to Dr. Ryder, that they also have to schedule around when _that_ surgeon can make it up here as he's in Georgia. I wouldn't worry though, and congrats on finishing up all your pre-op testing!
Trace
Hi trace!
I was never aware of any monthly meetings. No one at Dr. Roye's office
ever told me. I just learned about them here on the messageboards. Dr.
Roye did tell me he had only done a few lap-band procedues which made
me quite nervous. How do you feel about that? Dr ryder doesn't have any more experience than he does. Do you think having a surgeon from
the company that makes the lap band overseeing the procedure is safe
enough ? I don't mean to scare you or anything but I have relatives who
keep telling me to make sure I get a surgeon with a lot of experience
with this procedure. I don't know of one in ri. I haven't met Dr. Ryder
yet. Is she nice? Dr. Roye was but when I tried to tell him I was going
to have trouble with the exercising part, he wouldn't even let me
explain. He said I was just making excuses. Believe me I'm not! I'm on
social security disability because of chronic pain. I've had several
surgeries and I'm on 16 presc. Meds. Sometimes I can hardly walk or
even straighten up. I also have several other medical conditions in-
cluding cardiomyopathy (heart disease). Dr. Roye just didn't want to
hear any of it. I'm hoping that after losing the weight, I can go off
most of these meds. And maybe some of my pain will go away.
Sorry that I rattled on and on! Thanks for listening! Good luck and
take care!
Sandy!
