moods... help!
Ok... It has been 22 days since my surgery, everything has been going wonderful. I am 48 yrs old, I have NEVER had a problem with depression or mood swings before. I have always been suzy sunshine.. always upbeat and high on life. The past few days I all of a sudden feel so sad for no reason. I just want to (and sometimes do) cry and I have no reason why.
Has anyone else had this problem after surgery? Or maybe its the menopause... whatever it is.. it is new to me and I don't like it.
I sure hope it passes quickly, it really doesnt become me lol

Sounds like perimenopause to me,or menopause. I had the same feelings a few years back in my mid 50's and went on antidepressents and i have never felt better since.
If it keeps up, and you have these feelings of sadness and want to cry like i did then talk to your doctor. I asked for some antidepresents and believe me, they helped me go thru some tough times.

Hi Trish,
Oh boy, that happened to me BIG time.....and sometimes still does. I have heard it is the hormones that are released from oall the fat we lose.......hang in there and "go with the flow" If you need to cry then do it...........embrace it.....and move on......it will pass and get better as you start to enjoy your life again and start doing more things.
I iknow, it sucks, but it is worth the trade off........just tell your peeps around you to "deal with it" its hormones.....LOL
Take care,
Elisa
hey there.
it could be post surgical depression. it happens very, very regularly. so often, that most doctors prepare you before any sort of major surgery.
after all of my surgeries, i've gone through a week or so of feeling so unreasonably sad... and then one day - poof - it's gone.
so hopefully that's all that's going on with you!

Hi,
My surgeon told me to expect every gammut of emotion after surgery. It's our bodies getting rid of anesthesia, our hormones raging because of a big surgery, and also our bodies being changed/altered internally.
I would go from laughing to crying in a minute. He said it was totally normal, looked at my husband and said, "Watch out!" He was right!
Hang in there...you're early in the game and are still healing. Just let the moods pass for now, and if they're not getting better, call your surgeon or PCP and tell them. Maybe a short course of some medication will help.
It does go away in time, though, I'll say that.
