? on pre-op testing...Dr. Roye patients
Hi,
I have a couple of questions on the pre-op testing...specifically the psych eval and the nutrition eval....
1. does insurance cover both evaluations??
2. Who did you use for the Psych eval..Freidman, Messier, Zimmerman, Boerescu
3. Who did you use for nutrtion eval..Spellman, Kenny, O'neil, Smith
I need to set up my appts today and don't know who to choose...
any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I have been seeing Dr. Boerescu for 3 1/2 years personally, non-WLS related. I really like her a lot. She is very smart, and recommended for me to get into a pre/post op group before my testing began since I have significant eating problems. I have heard that she is tough when it comes to pre-op evals, and will send you to the group with Dr. Messier before you are cleared for surgery.
I think one of the other Kristen's on here had problems with Dr. Zimmerman, but I may be wrong...I know someone in the RI board did. He was not very nice is what I have heard.
I am not going through with my surgery, since my insurance does not cover it (when I was told it did), but at least I can give you some insight as to the psych. doctors. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi,
My insurance did not cover my Psych eval. I had to pay that so I went with the person that was cheaper and took less time. That was Freidman. I only had to go and talk with him for about 1 hour.
The nutrition eval I went to Spellman, she was very nice. Insurance covered that one.
Good Luck,
Claudia
Kristen,
Like someone else said it all depends on your insurance.
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield HealthMate Cost to Cost and I have to say out of all my testing I only had like one or two co-pays. I have a deductible of 500.00 and well when I called to make my psych it was before I did any other testing, thinking it was going to take me forever to get in. Well at that time I was tile it was going to cost me 300.00!! I was bummin cuze I hadn't planned for it so I told them I'll call them back when I can financially squeeze it in. I chugged along and did all my other testing whi*****luded seeing Dr. Spellman for my nutrition eval. She's wonderful!!! She has two locations and the whole time I was there I didn't feel like I was being scrutinized or picked apart due to my eating. She's the one who told me that my psych eval shouldn't cost that much and to call my insurance and do some hollering. Well after doing some digging, I found out that because I did all my other testing, it "ate up" my 500.00 and my psych eval was only going to cost me 25.00 not 300.00!!!!! Can you say Yaaa Freakin Hooooie!! I saw Messier and let me tell you, in plain English she pissed me off. When I walked into the room the first thing she said to me was "you know, if your depressed now is the time to talk to us about it and it's not the time to hide it." I was like what??? I was completely dumb founded by this comment by her. I felt like saying " ya know, just because I'm fat doesn't mean I can't be happy." I have three great boys, a husband any woman would give their right arm for, I did 26 treatments of daily radiation directly into my abdomen and 26 Mondays of horrible chemo. I beat cervical cancer!!!! Hello I'm alive!!!! I just happen to have this extra baggage that's beginning to slow me down and I'd like to do something before either A: I DO get depressed, B: my health gets worst or C: My husbands insurance changes and my opportunity is gone. I truly did not thing I was walking out of that office with an approval after her comments. But I did. Thank you GOD!!!!!
Someone else my love her and that's great, but me.... I'm ALLLLLLL SET....lol
Good luck with your testing!!!!
I'll be seeing you on the other side as my Surgery is in 7 yes 7 marvelous days!!!!!!
Big Hugs!!!
