I have a bit of a dilemma and I'm looking for some feedback.... Ok, now people who know me know I drive a 1986 Fleetwood Brougham Cadillac that I tend to gush over more then my kids. I absolutely love everything about my car, the ride, the uniqueness about it, (its 4 doors, metallic navy blue with a white top and white leather gut (interior) full power, tinted all the way around including a strip on the windshield, and I have yet to see another that looks anything like it. The body is pin straight with no dents, yes there is cosmetic issues but they are so minor unless you are looking for them you won't notice em'. I get complements on this car daily in parking lots, at stop lights, people walking by on sidewalks, everywhere. My son and I went to a classic car show a few weeks back, I wanted him to see all the different cars and to see how the body styles change from year to year. He enjoyed very much and wanted to hang out and watch all the cars leave, so I moved my car up close to be able to sit on the trunk and watch them all leave. As people left in their classics my son and I got quite a few head nods and "nice car" comments from the participants. I had people in Bellaire's giving me complements on my car! This car is completely original except for the spoke rims that I replaced the factory spoke hub caps for (I still have them and they are spotless) and the radio (still have that too in storage) This car is so me, it's flashy, it's different, it demands respect, it stands out in crowds, you know it when you see it, and when you see it you don't forget it. It's the automotive version of me!! lol Ok so what's my dilemma? My husband just bought a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT, four doors, 4x4 fully loaded all power. It's one step down from the Eddie Bauer Edition. It's nice (said in a sheepish tone) but it's defiantly blaah. It's dark metallic gray with light gray ground effects and fender flairs. Its black and grey fabric inside so it's real dark. It's factory tinted and has sport rims on it. But it's NOT me..... I for YEARS have wanted an Explorer. Wanted one so bad I could taste it! My husband has been busting my butt about driving this new one(new to us) because I have a lead foot. We have literally fought over me driving it. Well I drove it today, and well, I was completely let down. The steering wheel feels like it belongs on my sons toy car (my caddy's wheel is huge!) the drivers seat is a tight fit. The armrest feels like it's under my arm pit and the drivers door is flat against my leg. In my Caddy I feel like I'm sitting on a sofa it's so big in there. It screws don't get me wrong, but I dunno I just can't seem to warm up to it. Hubby now wants ME to have it, he's begging me to sell my Caddy while we can still get a good amount for it. My heart is with my Caddy but I truly don't know how much longer she's got till she needs a good going through and I just don't have the cash for that. I have the original showroom window sticker for this caddy and every receipt for what was done. It was bought from the original owner. I am the second owner. I know if I sell her I can get anywhere from 4000.00 to 6000.00 for her if not more. So with that I can customize this Explorer a bit and hubby will still have enough to get himself a small car. I am literally sick just thinking of getting rid of it but its reality. I wish I could store it but I don't have the cash for that either. I'm just bumming right now cuze I don't want to make a move then kick myself for it.... Help!!!!!! Please give me your feedback on this... P.S. Gas price difference won't factor in cuze my Caddy is so good on gas I only use a half a tank a week if that!!! Picture of my Caddy: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c68/mebella2000/Caddy/caddy.jpg

Hey Na, This is a subject for me for a few reasons. First, I have been there. I drove a 78 VW rabbit until 2000. I loved that car for some unknown reason. It was pumpkin orange, no air conditioning, two door with a stick shift. My grandmother bought it new. My husband bought me a chevy blazer that I drove for a couple of weeks but it didn't grow on me. I went back to the rabbit and sold the blazer. My hubby thought I was crazy. I know how you feel. I finally gave up the car for a Y2K bug, a (2000 beetle.) Second, I have always been kind of a *car girl* and the caddy, although it is not my thing, certainly sounds like a fun ride. I know what it is like to drive in a car that people take notice of. IT IS FUN!!!! I drove a red 72 Chevelle convertable for a while. I also go out to cruise nights sometimes in the Bluesmobile that you can see if you go to www.autorust.com Third, I will never forget how much I regret selling some of my past cars. The cars I have owned could be worth a mint today. Your 86 will be considered an antique in less that 5 years. If you hold on to that car at this point and take care of it well it will only "increase" in value. The operative phrase is "take care of it." You may regret selling it but you can always sell it at a later time after you have enjoyed it as much as you can. Your hubby will hate me now but I say, stay with the fun ride and save being less unique and more conservative till you are old. Betz
