I have never been so upset in all my life then when I had to be in 5 step down at RIH for about 24 hours. That place is ridiculous!! Is it a nurses station, or a place for critical patients that just got out of surgery?? My bed was placed right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of the doctors and nurses that are in and out of there all night and day, and literally, it is like a party, they had party platters and everything, I swear!! When I called my fiance in tears becuase I had not slept in 24 hours he could not even hear me with all the noise from the 20 nurses and doctors in there at any given moment. I started balling at one point and told them to take me out of there that instant, and that I would pay for a private room! Well I got out of there finally and when I did it was like heaven!! I really do think that I am going to file a formal complaint to the hospital about this. Has anyone ever been in this unit for more than 12 hours and had there bed in the big main room? Let me know. Thank you, Kristin

I was in the 5 step down for about 24 hours and then I was in a private room the next night (well with one roomate) and she ended up being this crazy woman so I had to get moved accoss the hall, it really was a bad situation! She was swearing so loud that I couldn't even hear my visitors. Shannon, I really don't mind you asking questions, in fact I like it! I am so bored and lonly, maybe if you give me your # or vice versa we can talk and I will tell you all about it!! Kristin

Kristin, I'm so sorry you went through that...I was in the big room too, for about the same amount of time...it was horrible....but I really didn't remember it until you wrote it...It was very loud in there, and I was just very uncomfortable....When they finally put me in a private room, I was in there with an old lady that was almost deaf and she had the TV on so loud I couldn't get any rest...I really didn't rest until I was finally home. Thats cool, were you allowed visitors? I would like my husband to be there when I come too reality, being a step down unit I did not now if you could have visitors. By the way how are you making out with the protein shakes. Shannon
