Hello All- This is really my first time posting although I do like to check in and read how everyone is doing. I love reading your posts. Everyone here is so open and honest and helpful. So, that is why I posting today because could use some support. Next Thursday June 15,2006 is my big day. I have surgery with Dr. Roye. It all seems so surreal at this point. I have wanted to be freed from this prison of obesity for so long and now it is right around the corner and I don't know how I really feel. I know that this is what I want. But I am in all honesty frightened of the unknown. I just hope I can do this. I want to have my life back, I want to be healthy and live my life to the fullest. I want my energy back and I would love to get some of my self confidence back. I want to be healthy so I can be the best mom for my four children. I just hope I can do this. I have lost weight in the past and always thought okay, now I have this issue under control and then something happens and I lose control and all the weight I have lost comes back plus more. I know that this surgery is not by any means a quick fix. I hope that this surgery will give me the tool I need to finally gain control of my weight and take my life back. So, basically what I'm trying to say is that I'm really scared of the whole surgery thing and I'm even more terrified of failing. Thanks to all who have taken time to read my post. I tend to ramble on. But any advice you can send my way for settling my nerves would greatly be appreciated. In closing I would like to say I really can't wait to join all of you on the losing side. Thanks again for listening.

Hi Kas, Well we will be glad to have you. I know I have thought alot of the same things you have. But you can do it. We will be glad to have you with us. I have only had my surgery a little over a week ago and if my scale is right I have lost close to 24 lbs. Some of that was weight gain from all the fluids they pump into you in the hospital. But i want to wish you the best of luck. If you have questions and we can't answer them for you than go onto the main board, they are always tons of people there that will help you also. Claudia

Wow Claudia !!! That is great 24lbs in one week. You must be feeling pretty good about that. How has your first week post op been? Have you been really tired? I'm just curious wondering what to expect. I have my teaching class this Thursday at Dr. Roye's office. I can't believe it is here one last step before the big day. How was your experience with RIH? How long was your hospital stay? Any advice on what to bring with me the day of surgery? Claudia, thanks again. Kas

Welcome to our message boards, I had my surgery May 17th, and if you have been reading our posts, then you know the first three days, at RIH was great and the last day was terrible. I too like Claudia and you and I belive everyone else here that reads and posts wonder if we are doing the right thing. This is a life altering tool for weight loss. You dont have to worry about losing the weight, because there is no way you can't lose. The thing is too keep it off once the pouch is healed and not get crazy eating the stuff we used to eat. I am happy I did it, as I am 59 years old and have a lot of artharthis and I did it because I was in so much pain. I am down 21 lbs and I can tell my back pain and knee pain is getting better every day. I dont know how old you are, but if you have 4 kids at home, you are probably young. You will be tired for awhile, so get the kids ready to help you. If you are having a lap surgery then dont worry, its a breeze. 5 small incisions and barely any pain when you get home. I had my gall bladder out the same time and it was the best way to do it. Wondering about the unknown is normal. You will be just fine. Carol b
