In general how did you peeps feel 7 days out?
Ok I have a question for all you "post-op" peeps.
My surgery is set for June 27th which means the 4th of July is 7 days later.
My question is in general how did you peeps feel 7 days out?
See, seeing how I'm going to be out of work I'd love to bring my youngest to his very first Bristol Parade. We used to go every year before he was born and I have not been in 9 years. I took him to the classic car show they have at Sams Club On Sundays last Sunday and he absolutely loved it. He now wants to go every week. He asked that we stay and watch all the cars leave, so we sat on my trunk for about an hour and a half watching cars just drive by and waving like it was a parade. He was in his glory. One guy had hydraulics in a Caddy older then mine and stopped right in front of him and began hopping. I have a 86 Fleetwood, so needless to say I was mortified but to each their own. You would have thought he was looking at Santa! Lol So anyways I know he'd sooo enjoy the Bristol Parade I'm just wondering if I'll be able to hack it being just 7 days out.
So what do you guys think?????
Thanks!
NaDene
hi NaDene,
I agree completely with Claudia, very hard with the sun and you have to eat /drink every few hours. I sat on my deck about 7 days out with some freinds who came to visit me and the sun was out. Approximately 1 hr later i was inside the house and compeltely wiped out. But then again I am a lot older than you. It may make a difference. See how you feel right before you go and wear a hat, sun screen and bring lots of hydration...maybe you can.

Hey NaDene...
I think I could have lasted a few hours, under the shade though with plenty of cold water. I came home from the hospital on a Thursday night and went to Walmart on Saturday, was only there less than an hour and was extremely tired from the walking. It all depends on how you feel, but don't push yourself to much, I have found myself trying to go and do to much at once and then am beyond tired... I would do something a little more low-key and do that next year....Ti...
Nadene sounds like youll be exausted so maybe you need to care for your self and go to the parade next year. Oh we have a 57 chevy and a 51 chevy May be we have seen you there before in seekonk right ? Relax and im excited for u also the swallow test is the first test 4 me and it was your last . Oh well im convinced he is the best so good luck. Elaine
My thoughts, for what they are worth since I am still pre-op: Next year will be here before you know it, I wouldn't go to that big of an event. If you want to try something that might be a bit tough to handle I think it is important to think about the exit strategy for a just in case problem. If the trip to the parade is uneventful and you had no problems great, but what if there is a problem?? It is not an event where you can decide you need to get in your car and get out of there quickly. Hey, that is what I would consider.

NaDene,
I think you should look at the kind of day it is going to be. If it is going to be partly cloudy and not so hot, so long as you have a chair, umbrella and LOTS of cold water or juice I think you will do okay. Remember your son is young and unless you have someone with you that can do the chasing after him ( because we all know they like to get up and move around a lot) I think you should hold off until next year. I myself felt great at the end of 7 days. For me, it was pacing myself. Four days after surgery, I went to the museum in Pittsburgh for about 1 1/2 hours and then spent the rest of the day lying down. By day seven, I was out shopping with my girlfriend and then to a movie for about 5 hours. Just remember that the body is smarter than all of us and it will tell you if you are doing to much.
