Oh i'm fine getting the follow up from my own doctor, I just was wondering how extensive a blood panel the Quebec surgeons order. For instance when I was looking this up on this site (not Quebec but the whole forums), a lot of the blood lists had B1 and B6 listed. So I had my doctor put that on the list. But when I went to the CLSC they said they don't do the B1 and B6 blood tests and that if I want those I have to go private. So that made me wonder if you guys get B1 and B6 tested since the blood tests don't seem all that used. There were some no brainer ones like electrolytes, calcium, protein, B12, iron, ferritin...
I am not sure if Dr.Christou would see you since he is not your surgeon, but I think you have a good chance that he will because he is privet. From what I hear he charges 100$ a visit. Worth a try...
Good Luck!
Thanks Pete, But I think I got it figured out what is right for me.
I tend to be awake late and up later... So I changed my shake schedule to 12,3,6 and 9pm. This has helped ALOT. Evenings were the worst. And the fact that were allowed broth(fat free) helps totally. Going to the grocery store and going to make a homemade veggie soup.
You probably make the leek soup homemade because i have never seen a prepackaged one that doesn't have potatoes.
Barbra was right by day 3 it get easier!
Good luck!

So sorry about your mother, but congrats on the wedding and the baby! How exciting!
If your scale is jumping around giving you crazy numbers like that, might be time to change the battery? Or get a new scale... I would find that extremely demotivating! I can highly recommend the EatSmart scales, Amazon.ca finally sells them (I had to buy mine from the US at the time), they are crazy accurate. I also love my Fitbit Aria wi-fi scale, but that's useful since I have a fitbit, without it I'd just go for the Eatsmart one!

I got my pamphlet yesterday and was looking it over. I'm was trying to think of a few things that might be ok to to eat.
1) a greek style salad without oil -cucumber, tomato, peppers, onion, basalmic or reg vinegar, italian spices or just oregano. let it sit in fridge for a while. mix with lettuce to serve (if you want)
2) some kind of beet salad (never made one before). perhaps jsut jarred one is ok.
3) leak soup with onion and garlic ... but skip the sautee step to avoid oil and just cook a bit longer in water/broth instead.
4) steamed broccoli. or pea pods with carrot slices.
5) for snack, i kinda like cucumber and radish in 50-50 water white vinegar with a bit of pepper (and salt if you like that)/ sliced tomato with pepper. I think pickles will be ok too, just need to check label
6) home made coleslaw, no oil, artificial sweetener? http://allrecipes.com/recipe/amish-coleslaw/detail.aspx Or maybe jsut boiled cabbage.
was trying to think of some kind of salad dressing to make without oil, but can't think of one that would work. something with mustard maybe? lol. idk.
I'm a bit overwhelmed by the quantity the dietitian prescribed for liquids. 4 optifast - do not do less. plus an additional 1.5-2l a day of water. that's like 3 litres a day ... best not be too far from bathroom i guess!

You can also order it from well.ca. I found it kind of icky so I threw away the can, plus it was only about 7 grams of protein. The Unjury chicken soup flavored powder was what I used early out of surgery, they also have an unflavored one but I didn't try it. I spent so much money trying so many protein shakes after surgery and they were mostly all pretty gross. Now I only do the Premier Protein ones ( you can get them at Costco). They're ready to drink shakes, about 25$ for a box of 18, 30g of protein per drink (325ml), 160 cals, 1g sugar. Tastes like chocolate milk to me, I still drink one for breakfast every day because it's an easy protein boost.

I had my surgery in Mexico as a self pay (I didn't want to wait for however many years the waiting list is currently up to in Quebec, some ridiculous amount by now I'm sure!). I had my surgery in November and things are going great, I'm down 67 pounds :) Anyways, the downside of going to Mexico is that I don't have any follow up appointments with my surgeon. How often do your surgeons in Quebec do follow up blood work after surgery? And do you know what it is exactly they're testing? My primary care physician has agreed to follow me but I (and she) had no idea what to get so we ordered a ton of stuff (a lot of it unneeded I'm sure), so it ended up being about 8 vials of blood, blech :) I don't think that's going to be needed in future blood tests, I know B12, D, Calcium, protein, iron, electrolytes... do you track other vitamins? A, E, K etc?
