Funny you should mention it just being a tool...Like we all have, I have done countless amounts of diets including slimfast shakes. My big worry was that I wouldn't be able to stick to this for 2 weeks, or I would cheat so much that I wouldn't lose and they would refuse to operate. But one thing this last week has taught me is that I have alllllot more self control then I give myself credit for. I went to the movies tonight. My friend bought popcorn and a drink. I brought cucumber and baby carrots in a ziploc. I swear I didn't even take one from him. I wasn't even tempted. I just looked at the menu and said i cant eat any of this and left it at that.

Thanks for the words of encouragement !!!

things are a bit better today on day 2.   I tried adding some berry MIO to my vanilla optifast just now and it really helped with the taste.  later i'll try some pomegranite in the chocolate and see how that goes.  What has really helped is making a simple vegetable soup.  I used a can of campbell's beef bouillon and some frozen mixed veg+half can of tomato.  taste is not super, but it really perks be up just the same.  There is a a bit of fat and carb in the boullion, but less than 1g in a can, and i only eat 1/4 of a can each time.  I think that is ok.  couldn't find any soup stock that didn't have sugars, carbs or fats .... since that is basically what soup stock is!  plus salt of course.

This is the first test of many following WLS, you can do this, just set your mind to it! I'm sure many will agree having WLS is challanging... I remember when I first had my surgery, lots of vets would say things like, it won't always be that way, and you'll have to deal with your inner demons, and that you'll be able to eat more eventually ect.. I didn't believe, them, why would I? I knew my body, right.. I figured I'd never want to eat sweets again, and that this is my new life, and it's just going to happen.. trust me when I say, you have to work at it every day, the sleeve as you will hear mentioned again and again is JUST A TOOL, you actually have to do the work... so start now with the Optifast, it's the first hurdle. You can do it, you just have to put your mind to it and the rest will follow!! :)

Good luck guys, we're keeping the loosers bench nice and warm! ;)

I'm pretty sure there is one in French at the Gatineau hospital and one or more in ottawa somewhere but to be honest, i've never really felt the need. However now, being 30 poubds from goal, I wouldn't mind getting some tips or meeting people who are in the same boat as me.

Hi Vero! I' so happy my blog actually helped some people out! It was it's whole purpose in the first place!

I wasn't allowed dressing but I had some anyways. Same goes for cream in coffee, I did that too!

The thing with me is that before surgery, I thought my days of eating what I loved was going to be out of the question. I was wrong! Those things you will get to enjoy again a few months after surgery but in moderation. You will learn to love food again and learn and understand how much food your body really needs. I still to this day look and my buddies or my wife and tell myself, WOW that portion is huge or OMG you're eating WAY TOO MUCH but now looking back, I know how they felt when I was eating.

As for the shakes, keep it going! Only a couple more days left and you'll be on the losers bench with us. The first couple of days may be hard for u, but one thing is for sure, u wont be hungry. You'll want to chug water but u will only be able to sip it and when I mean sip i mean the least amoubt of liquid ever. Lol ao before surgery, chug as much water as u can. As time goes, u will be able to drink bigger sips but I sill cant chug a full glass of liquida anymore. Its just not possible.

Have fun! We'll be rooting for you!!

yes i'm going to give it another day or 2 ... but they make me feel sick.  I think it's the canola oil or presevatives in them.  it's a bit annoying that we arent allowed fat of any kind, yet there is canola oil in them, and quite a bit!

Hi Derek... well 7 days in I am used to those nasty shakes. After day 3 it got alot easier. I WISH I was allowed salad dressing! I am allowed 4 shakes, fat free broth, and veggies(no patatoes, avocado or corn). Coffee and Tea, no milk no sugar, Sweeteners. oh and sugar free jello.

I haven't cheated with whole meals. But I do have to admit I have eaten things I wasn't allowed to eat a total of 3 times. But only 1 piece not a mouthful, so i guess that cant be enough to sabotage. Then felt so bad I skipped a shake. Don't tell my surgeon..lol. I am just scared they will close me up and send me home. I herd that happened to 1 women.

BTW... Your the reason I found this site... I was looking for a site like this for a while, and then I saw one of your youtube video's and you mentioned it. angry
