you can try to speed it up by calling the office and asking if there is a questionnaire you can pick up, or an information session soon that you can attend. might not save a ton of time, but a few weeks maybe. You have to do these both before you meet with the doctor for the first time and decide on surgery type. The wait passes pretty quickly, at least for me. Might even be able to meet with a nutritionist there and get started early on your journey ... that might be helpful if you havent met with one before.
anyway, best of luck and hope you get a date soon!
I've gotta say my heart has sunk reading this discussion about the wait times. I only sent off my referral application last week. Right now the thought of having to endure being this heavy for another year or more has me really bummed, and scared. I hope they have some sort of triage system in place in the Public system, to determine who can wait and who needs to have it sooner.
Anybody know what types of bariatric surgery they do at Lachine Hospital? The folks at the central office at the Vic said only certain types of operations are performed in Lachine.
Hey!
Wow you have done AWESOME!!!!! Congrats lady!!!! So happy for you!!
I've already met with a Plastic surgeon and need a fleur de lys tummy tuck... hopefully in the next two years... I'd also like t get my thighs and arms done.. we will see ;)
So happy for you! Keep it up!!! ;)
Hi HaggisBoy -
I had a wonderful experience at Lachine hospital. Staff was super nice and mostly attentive. I never made it on the the post op floor because of lack of space, so I was in the ICU (as I said, becuase there was no room on the main floor, not due to complicaitons thankfully!) Very attentive, knew enough about the procedure and recovery. They would tell the food staff to just leave my food as I could only take little sips at a time, so breakfast ran into lunch and lunch into dinner. Lachine hospital, I later found out, specializes in 3 areas: one of them is bariatric. the beds are comfy as are the chairs. I had extra pillows and blankets available. staff was sweet and helpful. Overall very good experience. By the end of day 1, my IV was out and, other than encouraging me to walk and hydrate, they pretty much left me alone!
Best of luck - see you on the other side!
Hi all. I'm new here (this is my first post, in fact). I'm applying to the RVH for bariatric surgery. When I spoke to the bariatric center at RVH I asked them about the Lachine Hospital as I grew up in Lachine and am familiar with that hospital, plus, getting to and from there from Pierrefonds, where I live now, would be much easier than going downtown. I was told over the phone that only certain types of bariatric surgery were performed at Lachine. Can anybody tell me which types, and which are reserved for the Royal Vic?

ah, ya that's a tough career for a WLS person. I follow a youtube channel that has a culinary person with lapband. not sure what his personal channel is, but might be a good person for you to reach out to and talk with if you can.

He talks about difference between eating and tasting, and has come to terms with losing more slowly in this profession, etc etc. there is a balance there somewhere for sure!
Hi, silly me. I did not notice your message (bad habit of not looking) but I just added you on FB
