no info on revision, but DR Court did do a great job with me and the followup with the clinic at the RVH has been pretty good.  I would get a referral and bring it in and pickup the information form to fill out (if they still do that).  can ask them how soon you can go to an information session.  The preop was jsut 2 weeks optifast, so no biggie there.

I had a VSG 5 years ago in Mexico which went very well, but 2 kids and a voracious appetite while breastfeeding later and I'm getting within 20 lbs of my starting weight.  We're done having kids, and while I'm still breastfeeding, I anticipate being done by the time I see a doctor.  My BMI is floating around 35 right now and I have sleep apnea, last test (many years ago now) put me in the severe range.  It definitely improved when I lost weight though.

I was wondering, since QC didn't cover my VSG originally, if I wanted a revision (likely to a DS actually), would they cover it now?  Any idea what it would take to qualify?  Anyone been through a revision in QC?  I don't have a family doctor and was thinking of just heading to a clinic, waiting the ten billion hours and getting a referral to Dr. Court at the RVH, since the wait time seems short and he has great reviews.  My 67 year old mother is thinking (after many years of coaxing from me) about finally getting WLS done too, I thought it would be nice to go together if possible to the referral appointment, if they'd allow that.

Any information about the process would be appreciated, in MX I didn't need a referral, no extensive pre-op stuff so no clue what it's like (other than reading forum posts here) in QC.

Topic: RE: Help, how do I get on a waiting list?

Thank you all for the information. I faxed yesterday the form and the GP's referral to RVH, and sent an e-mail this morning to ask about the information session. If you have any other ideas how to speed the process, I would gladly try all of them :)

Before finding this forum I was considering having the surgery in Mexico, or somewhere in Europe. I could get somehow the money for that, after all, I deserve an investment in myself, but the idea of traveling for hours only few days after the surgery, and not having a surgeon to follow up on me, was a little scary. But waiting another year and having it done here, for free ;), that would be more than reasonable. Thanks again.

get a referal from your GP ... or a specialist that deals with one of your co-morbities.  walk that in and fill in the forms and ask when next group meeting is.  just to get things moving.  tell them you are open to cancellations. etc.  i got my first date about 4 months after the group meeting.

It seems the wait time for the royal victoria hospital is the shortest at this time. It takes about 1 year or less. Really worth looking into as they have a great bariatric team!

Note: they do not perform the gastric band

I am going through the RVH. My referral was sent in June 2013 and i had my information session at the end of November. I believe i have to wait a couple of moths to see the doctor, but from what i can tell from other posts, it should be all done by the summer.  Apprx 1 year wait. You first have ro fax the bariatric clinic your referral and they will send you some medical questionnaires to complete. Once all is faxed back, you wait for orientation and you will then be officially on the list.

good luck!

How long are the waiting lists? I am waiting at Sacre-Coeur since January 2013 and I didn't even got to see a doctor yet. They told me I have to wait 3-4 more years after i see the doctor.

Is there any other hospital where i could try? How to I get on the list at RVH?

Where did you sent your referral to get a surgery date so fast? I applied online in January 2013 and I didn't even got to see a doctor before getting on the waiting list.
